I am preparing to apply for graduate school and as i take my last prerequisite having already completed my BA, I wanted to know if by also retaking a class I failed a course during my AA degree will affect my bachelor degree cumulative GPA? I feel like that GPA is set in stone, especially since I no longer attend that college, however since the failed course contributed to the cumulative GPA that followed me there it makes sense that when replaced by a higher grade that the previously stated culmative GPA would be inaccurate. Any thought?
If it is a course you took during your AA degree, then it is not very relevant to your major or to considerations for graduate admissions. There is no good reason to take it over long after you have finished your AA. Presumably, you have done better in your courses since and that should be the deciding factor.
It depends on your college. Some colleges will replace old grades with new ones; some colleges will factor both into your GPA and some don’t let you retake courses.
Also, some graduate schools will recalculate your GPA anyway, and they can use all of the above three options to recalculate retaken courses.
I agree that it doesn’t make sense to retake it - it probably wouldn’t raise your GPA substantially anyway.
