Hi all,
I had a question in regards to retaking all courses that I did not obtain a C or better in. My question pertains specifically to retaking failed courses that do not pertain to your desired University degree. For example, retaking a “Medical Terminology” course when my desired bachelors degree will be in Business, for the sole purpose of raising my GPA. I’m a little older and work full time so I’m somewhat out of the loop when it comes to whats best for making these decisions. Thank you for your time.
I would talk to an Advisor at the college you plan on attending, CC or University and ask them specifically. I had the same situation and I was advised not to repeat the class in question.
You say that the sole purpose of retaking those classes would be to raise your GPA. The question then becomes: What is your reason for wanting to raise your GPA?
If the goal is to raise your GPA in order to qualify for things like scholarships, grants, etc., you need to compare the time and cost associated with retaking those courses, to the benefits you would potentially receive. For example, does spending $3,000 to retake courses and potentially qualify for a $2,000 scholarship make sense?
In most cases, your time and money would be better spent working on completing your degree program and raising your GPA via future classes, as opposed to retaking courses. However, there are situations where it can be beneficial to retake courses. Your advisor should be able to identify if your situation warrants retaking those courses.
