I can’t speak for all dorms, but where I lived and where most of my friends lived, the washers were generally front loaders. Sue22 is correct about the laundry system, we use MacGrey cards in order to do our laundry.

My son is already getting emails from professors about textbooks, digital and otherwise, and that has prompted a discussion about used print textbooks. He knows the school bookstore sells used ones, but wonders whether books bought used are/can be sold back to the bookstore to be resold. If so, at what kind of prices? Also, do students sell textbooks directly to each other? Any info about how this works at Bates is appreciated.

Milestone, my son buys all his books on Amazon but sells them back to the bookstore at the end of every semester. Not sure how much he gets.

Well, the books that are sold back to the school by students are technically all used. Although I would caution that some books bought off online venders like Amazon may be without an ISBN code which would make it impossible for said books to be bought by the school. How much a student might get back really depends on the condition of the books and how much they were worth initially; I’ve seen some students pocket $300 for books that they initially bought for a fraction of the price. Most of the time the savings range from dismal to adequate, though. Students often sell textbooks directly to each other as well, either because they decide to switch courses last minute or completed a course last semester/year.
