is there leisure material at powell or any of the libraries? (si issues, john grisham novels, etc)

Powell Library has a reading room on the second floor dedicated to newspapers and magazines, ranging from the mainstream to the eclectic.

Namaste- Yeah, I'm from Orange County. But I live in LA most of the time for school/work.

But I still use my 949 area code.

just wanted to verify one thing.
if our loan lender is on the preferred list, the lender will electronically send the loan to ucla right?

If it's from a preferred lender:

Your disbursements will be sent to UCLA via EFT and applied to your Billing and Receivables (BAR) account. Refunds will be forwarded to your bank account via Bruin Direct or mailed to you, if you have not signed up for Bruin Direct.

Loans are administered either as paper transactions or electronically via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). Loan proceeds disbursed by check are picked up in the Loan Services Office, while funds transferred electronically are deposited directly into student’s Billing and Receivables (BAR) account.

Electronic Transactions
If you chose a lender that participates in EFT, your loan funds are sent to UCLA electronically. Loan funds from such a lending institution will be disbursed directly to your BAR account. For further information on the BAR process, please contact Student Accounting at 1121 Murphy Hall or call (310) 825–9194.

Jasonx88, did you already visit http://opennet.salliemae.com ? I just submitted my MPN so I'll verify my post later.

so the preferred lenders for stafford loans send disbursements to ucla electronically as well..thanks emmeline
yeah i recently submitted my mpn and it basically says "in progress" for the loans.
thanks.
gosh i feel like all i do is ask questions haha. heres another: is there a post office on campus that students can use?

There's one in Ackerman.

Hi. I'm a ucla's newly admitted transfer student. Due to financial difficulties and family responsibilities I guess i have to work more than 30 hours a week. I don't think I can handle 13 or more units.
In order to become a part time student at ucla, whom should I talk to? And is it possible?

your answer will be appreciated

ucla_piyo,

For the most part, UCLA is full-time only. Why can't you subsist on financial aid?

how/where do we view the syllabi of professors?

The class website when its available and if the professor decides to put it online. You can get linked there (if it exists) by clicking on the course title on your MyUCLA.

aid/money/whatever is supposed to be disbursed to our BAR account by the 20th correct? (if not, we're dropped from our classes?) while this happens, we're supposed to pay for our housing based on whatever our payment plan is b/c they don't notify you, right? (just making sure :( )

yes, no not on the 20th sharp...theres several days "grace period" i believe, and yes

Jasonx88: I made a call and found out that the loans aren't (disbursed?) or taken into your BAR account until the 18th. So yeah, I guess that's when our BARs will be cleared. I was just told that as long as my paperwork/MPN was in, I would be ok. Also, don't forget to change your mailing information on your URSA because this is where they get your info (instead of from the paperwork).

okie dokie thanks.

How do you remove your contact info. from UCLA's directory? (http://www.directory.ucla.edu)

Also, I have 2 finals one after another.
They are both on Wednesday, December 13th.
One is from 8 - 11 and the other 11:30 - 2:30.
You guys suggest that I change courses?

"the only thing im confused about is the "discussion, one hour (when scheduled)"
and theres no discussions listed under the lecture? hmm..."

Are you seeing the same thing?
Perhaps the discussion courses are all full? Hmm...
Yeah, I don't get it...

nikkei325i, i think that it depends on which classes the finals are for and whether you think you can handle taking two finals on the same day. but, truthfully, most students prefer to not have more than one final per day.

Oh and yeah Jason, my post about preferred lenders and EFT is correct. It does disburse automatically if you chose a preferred lender and submitted your MPN whatever on Sallie Mae.

Emmeline, you should be able to change your settings on URSA under privacy options.
