Thanks for getting back to me! I am going to e-mail one of the advisors for the program and see if she can give me a little bit more information.
Who would ever think that choosing a dorm would be the most stressful part of applying to college!? If I decide to not go with Holmes, is there another dorm that you would recommend? Any other info you could provide about the dorms would be very much appreciated! Thanks again!

I've got into Clemson and honors and plan on being there in the fall. But I'd like to know what type of social scene Clemson has. Are there alot of parties, is social life greek-centered? Is there always something to do?

c2008 and Kevin_C I have applied to the honors college and waiting...didn't do priority. Can you tell me your stats? My rank and GPA are high but SAT's aren't quite 1400...just checking to see what you guys had.

1480 SAT (750 M 730 V), 3.9/4.0 unweighted, 2nd/300

c2008, what gender are you? I ask because most of the dorms are not co-ed.

There is always something to do at Clemson. Last night we were all playing in the snow, today Huckabee came to campus, and tonight most people are just hanging out. The greek scene is a large aspect of campus, but it is in no way the only one. Whether of not you are in a frat or sorority, there will always something to do. If you want to party a lot and you don't know a lot of people, then greek is probably the way to go (aside from hall parties, most are held by upperclassmen off campus).

Hey Mitch I have just been accepted to the University Honors Program and I was wondering about AP Credits. I guesstimate that I will accumulate about 59 credits by the end of high school. Would that mean that I could finish an undergrad degree in about 2yrs?

I know the Clemson website has a table that shows the credit awarded for each course (the page is down right now). I came in with 32 hours of credit (7 AP classes), and I am on track to graduate in 3 years. Although you have a lot of credits, graduating in less than three years will be difficult because of the major requirements. If I had any more AP credits, it would not have mattered because there are many required courses that aren't available through AP. For example, engineers have to take x amount of semesters in general engineering class before they can go one to fulfill their major requirements. These classes are usually pre-requisites to the higher level classes, so regardless of credit, x amount of semester must be taken before any of the higher level classes can be taken. It will take you shorter because you have completed electives and general college requirements, but doing it in two years would be difficult. I would try to talk to an adviser in your college to see what they say about your situation.

hey i just got something in the mail this morning for "Clemson National Scholars." It says that I am a finalist. Anyone else get this?

crazyazn, i got that too...are you going to the finalist weekend thing?

Hi Mitch! I am a female, and I was hoping to be in one of the co-ed dorms, but I did notice that very few actually are co-ed.

I was just asking because dorm life seems very different for girls than for guys IMO. Girls seems to have a more 'sisterly' bond with the other girls in their dorm. From what I hear, every dorm has its share of loudness and parties. Holmes has the biggest rooms and the best location as it is close to Harcombe (dining hall), the library, Death Valley, and classes. I haven't been in Johnstone, but the building is old, ugly, and set to be torn down in the next few years. The Shoeboxes are very close to Death Valley and Fike. The rooms have tiles floors, but each room does have its own sink. The high rises are farther from Death Valley and Fike, but are near the library and Schiletter (dinning hall). These rooms are carpeted, seem larger than the Shoeboxes. Also, the Lever bathrooms were nicer than the Shoebox bathrooms I have been in. I'm not sure if I really answered your question though. Is there anything more specific you would like to know?

I am actually staying in Calhoun Courts due to a mixup with the housing department. It is nice having my own kitchen, bathroom, and living room, but I do envy my friends who have the 'hall experience'. Luckily my roommates are cool (I came here with one of them), but we don't talk to our neighbors much, whereas in dorms most people know their hall-mates pretty well.

Congrats to both of you for receiving the finalist notification.

auraeight, i am planning on going to finalist weekend, however I am really trying to get the Pogue at UNC, and if i am a finalist, i think the weekends might conflict. National Scholars is really enticing though, and as of right now I am 98% sure I will go. I am from Charleston, SC. Where are u from?

What weekend is that?

crazyazn - do you mind posting your stats?

When should I expect to hear from Clemson about RD???

february 15th

Mitch_L: thank you for all of the information!!
I have a question for you. I am a senior and applied to the Clemson nursing undergradate major. I should be hearing any day now, but I feel as though I will not be accepted into my major because my SATs have been pulling me down. I was wondering, if I were to be accepted into Clemson as an Undeclared major, if I keep my grades up would transferring in be easy/doable? I didn't specify on my application a second major (which was a stupid mistake) so would I be able to reapply as an undeclared?

IS it possible to double major between colleges??? Could I do engineering and business?

Melanie- I believe that transferring majors is fairly easy to do, but it depends upon where you want to be. I know at orientation some major couldn't be transfered into, but they did say that sports should open up in the future. I would contact the nursing department and ask them. Last week was actually change your major week on campus.

UNC- I think you can, but I am unsure. My roommate is majoring in engineering and minoring in econ, but he had to see a member of the econ department to do this. I would call and ask to be sure, but I don't think it would be a problem. They share few courses though, so it will take a lot of course hours and work.

My daughter just got admission into Clemson with Biology major. We live in Charlotte, NC. She has a unweighted GPA of 3.3 and weghted 3.7(Her weighted is low as she did her 9th and 10th grades in Tokyo where we lived three years and where the American School In Japan did not offer Honors or AP classes). She has 2010 SAT. She is a well rounded kid that travelled to over 35 countries with me because of my job and has an excellent perspective on life world wide.

What kind of Out of State tuition waivers does Clemson have?
Does she stand a chance of getting one?
