Current pre-meds at Case

Hey guys, I'm going to Case this fall as a biochem major (pre-med) and I have two questions for current pre-med students:

Now, I know Case prides itself for its good pre-med prep and an ~80% acceptance rate into med school, but I was wondering how's the quality of life for you guys? Uber-competitive, 4.0 crazy, etc.? Is there still time to enjoy yourselves one or two nights a week?

Also, what kinds of medical schools do Case pre-meds get into? Now, I understand not everyone gets the fat envelope from Harvard or Johns Hopkins, but is there a decent amount of acceptances from schools like Baylor, Pittsburgh, OSU, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Indiana, etc? Or is the majority of those acceptances from medical colleges like Toledo and the sort (not that there's anything wrong with those colleges; a family friend of ours graduated from Toledo Medical College and is now a prof at Northwestern).

Thanks guys. I already sent the deposit so you might as well be honest, I'd just like to get a feeling of what to expect.

i'm in the exact same boat, except as a bio major.

Case's acceptance rate is actually a little bit lower than 80% (generally low 60's-low 70's). What is troubling is that the avg. GPA and MCAT scores of accepted Case applicants is actually higher than that of the national average. Considering Case Western has a reputation for being difficult, you would hope that the opposite would be true. For example, the avg. GPA for accepted Duke and Princeton applicants is only around 3.5 and those schools are grade inflated. The average for Case was 3.75 last year.

In all fairness, the average GPA for accepted MIT applicants was similarly high (3.7) and MIT is possibly the most difficult school in the country. But then MIT isn't really a good premed school.

Hey! I am Biology/Pre-med like many people here. It is definitely not easy, but if you work hard and know how to study, you should be okay. I'm only a freshmen, but I've been fine so far. A cool thing about Case is that people are psycho competitive like other schools. I feel like everyone works together and helps each other. We definitely have time to enjoy ourselves. I'm a varsity swimmer and still manage pre-med with no problem. Don't worry!

i think you meant that people are NOT psycho competitive lol :-P
