Darth: The research opportunities for Rice students are not limited to the TMC or Houston. My son, a BioE R/B, has spent summers doing research at Pittsburgh Children's. Rice opens many doors.

In answer to the question about double-majoring in engineering and history. I tried to do something like this when I was at Rice and could not do it in 4 years. An engineering degree is a BS degree and a history degree is a BA degree. Rice will not let you earn a BS and a BA without significant extra coursework. I have only seen a few schools that offer a BA in engineering - Swarthmore comes to mind, but, honestly, I think most employers would prefer a BS. The BS degree requires more depth in engineering courses, therefore less time for breadth.
