DOes anyone know what kind of stuff they ask in scholarship interviews? If I get invited to a weekend I will be so nervous, a little help would be appreciated.

You probably should go on a vision quest. You'll be required to have extensive knowledge of yourself for this interview, so study up! Just ten or twenty minutes of self study a day should dramatically improve your performance. If you ever blank on a question about yourself, just think, "What would I answer to this question?" and things should be fine.

It's funny that I need to study in order to know myself :)

I had a scholarship interview last November (not with Duke). These guys are looking for someone with direction. Know what you want to do in college, why, how it will enhance your career (and what that career is), and how you feel you can contribute to the world.

Also, it would really help if you knew why Duke? Do they have great resources that tie into your major(s)? Have you visited the campus, etc.

Also, they put more stress on extracurriculars, probably, than the regular college app. Be ready to give a rundown, or, if asked, to go in depth on one of your passions, outlining what you've done, some history of the subject, publications, etc.

Mine also asked me about a problem in the community or the world and how I thought I could help.

But also, you really, really need to be yourself. These guys are smart (that's why they're there) and can tell if you're faking them out. Smile a lot -- don't take yourself too seriously!

(BTW- I'm not just spewing this info out. I successfully wowed my scholarship interview panel and they awarded me with a four-year full tuition scholarship to any university I want. So take heart! If this country bumpkin can do it, you'll be just fine.)

wow, what scholarship was that?

The Niswonger Foundation Scholarship. But it's only open to east TN residents, sorry. :(
