I got a project in English where I have to get real life judgement about colleges, so any current students or alumni, please respond. I would appreciate it so much if you could help me out.
- How were the living conditions on campus or off? What were your favorite and least favorite aspects about housing?
- In your opinion, how helpful was the college in helping you find internships/jobs?
- Do you feel like the lack of Greek Life affects social life on campus at all?
- What was the food on campus like?
- Any activities or clubs that you would recommend a new student to join?
If you have any other info that you would like to tell me about Boston College, please do, and thanks in advance!
@AHS2k16 Hi! Hopefully I can help you out with at least a couple of these…

Housing itself is fine. No complaints with my room (forced triple). However the process itself is less than desireable. I got 4 years of housing and am currently entering my sophomore year so the security of being able to stay on campus for whichever year i want is nice, regardless of studying abroad. My favorite aspect is the fact that my roommates were really great. Even though I didn’t really hang around with one of them, they were both really easy to coexist with. My least favorite part has to be the stucco ceilings (I had top bunk) which scratched up my knuckles pretty good. I just layered some duct tape on the ceiling and it became a non-issue, though.

I haven’t had experience with the career center yet but I did get an internship through familial connections at UBS in which I believe the Boston College name definitely helped ensure that my working there out of freshman year is, for the most part, a non issue. I start in about a week actually.

I think it just changes the social structure more than anything. All my high school friends who are in frats/sororities tell me they mainly hang around with the people in their house. At BC, you determine your friend groups through clubs, classes, projects, etc. It’s not put together as artificially as if it were Greek life. So from that aspect, it’s a lot more sincere and allows you to branch out to the extent that you’re comfortable with, which is really awesome for some people.

the food actually isn’t bad. The variety can get a bit stale at times but as far as pure quality goes, it really isn’t terrible. Some dining halls are better than others, as it is with a lot of schools, but I’ve never had an issue with the food itself, but rather the distance from my room to the nearest hall. I was one of the furthest on upper campus to the nearest dining hall, but will next year be in one of the closest buildings to the nearest dining hall, so my experience overall has been pretty positive with regards to food.

I’m personally part of the Student Admission Program (SAP) along with club ultimate frisbee, and I think I’ll be joining the German and Investment clubs next year. I would recommend all of them to freshman with the exception of the investment club, which can be kind of assuming that people have a finance background going in. A lot of the terminology can be confusing to people who haven’t been exposed to the finance world and I decided to wait until this coming year to consistently attend meetings, considering I’ll be taking a finance course this semester in conjunction. As for SAP, I highly recommend it because it lets members meet prospective students from all over the world and, while describing to them all the awesome things about BC, it kind of helps you realize how awesome it is to be a student there yourself.
Hope this helped address everything! If you have any other questions or want me to further elaborate on any of my answers, please let me know!
Thank you so much!! This helped me a lot. And no, I don’t have any more questions. Your answers were so thorough.
