I went to the office and the lady said only one of the two can be offered to the student, came back to check my email and it says they will update my package with a cal grant... !!??

I got both last year, but only the Cal Grant this year. I'm a Cal Grant B recipient, by the way, if it makes any difference.

TTG

Cal Bears Scholarship is offered to students with a 3.5+ GPA. Was yours above it?

Not wanting to go in-depth about my grades, though you are making me wonder why I didn't get the Scholarship or whether upon getting it, it would've affected my financial aid any different. Like you said, one can only get either the Cal Bears Scholarship or Cal Grant. Perhaps they factored this into the equation beforehand? What I've gotten for next year is decent, if not better than last year's.

TTG

I'm in a rather peculiar situation in that they mixed up my budget as off campus rather than on campus, and only received the Cal Bears scholarship rather than/with the Cal Grant even though I qualified for it. Then I got two different answers.

My first year I was given both.

I think the way it works is that they take your Cal Grant first and then fill any remaining financial need with a Cal Bears scholarship (provided that you've maxed out your loans, loans are given priority first).

Yup, I was given both last year. This year, they give 2 types of Cal grant B.

i only got cal bears scholarship but not cal grant.

What is a Cal Bears? Is it needs based?

I received a "private" scholarship last semester through the university and that was it. Income couldn't qualify for any grants. This semester I have a UC grant-in-aid...whatever that means. As long as this money pays for the tuition I'm happy =)

"Yup, I was given both last year. This year, they give 2 types of Cal grant B."

What do you mean 2 types of cal grant b?

and please, if you are an incoming freshmen or transfer say so b/c the situation is different.
