I was looking on-line and the array of clubs and other activities that I would love to do are just amazing! I love fencing, ballroom dancing, medieval club, archery, belly dancing, Russian club...
The only thing that concerns me - how active are those clubs? The medieval club/belly dancing web-sites were not updated since 2002 or so...

Helen,

I’m not a current student so I can’t speak directly about how active those particularly clubs are, but my suggestion would be to not base your opinion on how recently the websites were updated. Student organizations in general don’t use a club website to communicate because there is separate online medium (the much loved and hated FirstClass) that all students use to communicate/advertise/recruit one another.

I’ll second what jacinth_ambrose said re: firstclass and the activity level of the club. If you go to Spring Open Campus, many of the clubs manage to field a booth during the activities fair.

At a guess, I would say that fencing is active, and ballroom dancing does stuff through MIT (or at least the person I know who did ballroom dance, did it though them). I can’t speak much for the other groups.

What is exactly FirstClass?
Thanks for your reply I feel better now :)

Yeah, I am going for the 2 days in April. I really hope to fall in love with school in person :)

Fencing is definitely active on campus. We have a D3 team and we compete in NEWMACs. I’m not actually on the team but I have a lot of friends who are.

There is a Wellesley ballroom dance team and an MIT one. They basically work together, since MIT has lessons and a lot of people who have not done ballroom before find partners through those lessons.

Many organizations right now are in the midst of updating their websites. I know GenerAsians and Counterpoint just updated theirs as well as some other organizations. If you come to Spring Open Campus there will be a chance for you to see what all the organizations are and meet people in those organizations.

FirstClass is the email system at Wellesley basically. However it includes a LOT more than just your email. You have little conferences for each of your classes which contain your assignments, solutions, exam informaiton, etc. There also other conferences for organizations, sports teams, your class (ie. class of 2013, etc), and a whole bunch of other things. It’s a really great system!!
