Current Students - please speak to the social scene and/or jewish life on campus

If any current students could add their thoughts on either or both of the aforementioned topics it would be greatly appreciated.

There is absoluetly no social life on campus. If you are looking for a school with a social background look again.

There is a social life. It's probably not the stereotypical college atmosphere, but people at Chicago interact with other people. The quarter system means students are pretty busy with classes during the quarter, but there is still plenty of time for other things including having a social life. There aren't a lot of big university-wide-everybody's-there social events (though there are a few where lots of people show up), but between more low-key gatherings of friends and making use of the city of Chicago, students definitely have social lives.

I can't say much about the Jewish life, other than that I know a lot of Jewish people at Chicago. There is definitely a presence.

There is a Hillel Center right on campus and a Chabad house nearby, along with a few synagogues in Hyde Park. Jewish life is not enormous here, and there are much fewer Jewish students in Chicago than there were in my high school, but I think it's a comfortable environment for Jews of all levels of observance.

They have a very active AEPi chapter that is one of the social hubs of the campus. http://aepi.uchicago.edu/

About 20% of Chicago students list Jewish as their religion.

People who think Uchicago has no "typical" social life/party scene don't know what they're talking about. There are frat parties and apartment parties every weekend, "bar night" every Wednesday, and "Study break" at a different frat on Thursday nights.

Yeah, the social scene here can be typical if you want it to be, or you can do things that aren't the stereotypical college activities. If you want to drink, you won't have a problem. If you don't want to, that's fine, too.

The Jewish population here does seem smaller than a lot of places, but I know a fair number of Jewish students. I don't think many people here with middle of the road beliefs face any problems.
