i've heard (from various people who have gone to U of Chicago) that the social atmosphere there is, shall we say, less than amicable? according to these people, the students there are so intellectual and enwrapped in their studies that there is a weak social life. not to say i am a party person (one of the people farthest from that prototype), just there needs to be some chemistry goin on.

this and the factor of a sizeable, religious jewish community will greatly impact my consideration of u chicago as a possibility. thanks to all who respond!

ah this has been a question asked by SOOOOO many people.
search around. the answers are around here somewhere!

sure the people here are intellectual.
but that doesn't mean all they do is sit in the library 24/7 reading books all day. they go out, have fun, go to concerts, comedy shows, and there are parties here, and social life IS existant. i hung out with my friend who goes to uchic and he has fun. my dorm where i stayed during prospective students week - they were planning some boat trip. people were bright and friendly. THEY DO HAVE A LIFE! :P
