Pros and Cons?

Do students go into downtown Philly often?

Students can easily go into CC phila and some do. More go to Manayunk Section of Phila, a college student oasis from many schools. Depends on activity. KOP mall is 20 minute drive. Fairmount park for outdoor activities is a 10 minute bike ride. Train to AC from Phila.

The school activities are non-existent, so if you don’t go into Philly, you have nothing to do all weekend. Many students commute now, and the campus is like a ghost town on weekends. There are discount tickets available for the SEPTA, but Philly activities are expensive. SJU is in a heavy-crime area, the health center is closed all weekend, and the food is horrible. Class sizes are small, but that’s the only thing this school still has going for it.
Hi! So no offense to collegeparentx3, but don’t listen to her because she’s a parent. Going to Saint Joes was the best desicion I have ever made. To start, the campus is beautiful. It could being a little cold at times, but in the summer it is amazing. There is always something to do, u just have to be active to get yourself involve. U can always go to the city, but I never found going to the city to be necessary. There are so many clubs, volunteer opputuiniters and sports. For the most part, people live on campus. Everyone is so friendly there and I love the fact that it is a jesuit school. There is no way that this could possibly be considered a commuter school. Just visit and see for yourself! Honestly, my mom forced me to visit this school when we on a college visit trip in Philly and I loved everything about it. I think you will too, so visit!
Hate to burst your bubble, Kyle, but there are PLENTY of students who have not had the same experience as you. But hey, don’t listen to me, folks: google Saint Joseph’s University and read all the articles from last year when the professors took a vote of No Confidence in the President of the University. Their financial difficulties are so bad, they have cut budgets to the bone, and it is not the same school that many of the alumni remember. Cutbacks in every department, decrease in public safety, increase in disciplinary issues, and they lowered the bar for student admission, accepting the largest freshman class ever last year. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that more students + budget cutbacks/reduced staff/reduced services = a bad experience.
