<p>I dreaded taking the core classes, but they actually weren't that bad (all I have left is 1 ethics class). There is a lot of freedom in which classes you can take for each distribution requirement, which makes it less painful. For example, for the Humanities and Writing requirement, you can take classes like Art History, film, music (History of Rock is supposed to be a great class), and all kinds of other great classes. For philosophy, besides the normal classes, there are classes like Logic, Bioethics, and Philosophy of Love and Sex. For Theology, there are classes like Yoga and Meditation, and Art and Religion. And if you're worried about math/science, they have some great classes for non-majors, such as Chemistry of Cooking, and Math in Everyday Life. There is really a great selection of core corses. </p>
<p>The one thing I don't like about them is that they tend to grade very harshly, in comparison to my upper-level and graduate-level major classes. All of my lowest grades come from core courses.</p>
<p>Do you think there's a great deal of Jesuit influence on the Core?</p>
<p>I think all of the Jesuit schools have relatively intense Core requirements.</p>

<p>No, not really, unless you actually take a Jesuit as a professor. Even for the theology requirement, you can take classes on Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Atheism, or whatever. And the required freshman class, "The Problem of God," gives a pretty unbiased review of the world's religions (also depends on the professor)</p>
<p>Has the core been a worthwhile experience?</p>
<p>I personally think the core is worthwhile. From a business school prospective, I think it's important take english/writing course and get exposed to theology/philosophy. Those are definitely courses I would never have elected to take, but glad I was required to take them, b/c it only broadens your academic experience.</p>
