Current Students: What Is There To Do During Free Time At Your School?

So you go to Frogmore Academy and it's the weekend.... You're pretty much caught up with school work. The weekend is your oyster. * What do you have to look forward to? * Is your time structured? * How free (or restricted) are you in terms of venturing off-campus? * Do you have lots of activities to choose from or does pretty much everyone have to go to the same weekly dance if you're too tired of hanging out in your room listening to Joni Mitchell albums alone in the dark?

If you currently attend a boarding school, please tell us what a newcomer can expect from weekend life away from academia. If you can connect your information up with a specific school...please do so (without needlessly revealing who you are or breaking school rules, please).

well umm at my school there are shuttle vans into the local town (which has pretty much nothing- tacky tourist shops, a grocery store, movie theater, etc. but for some random reason has at least 4 different real estate places) idk thta weekends are pretty much free, im sure i will get tired of the weekend offerings after awhile but for now, idk im ok. but then again i havent been at bs for that long. :)

Free time?? Huh?? Between classes , homework, sports practices and games (2 games/wk), clubs and just hanging out with friends when you can, your days are very busy. Many schools have classes every Sat. morning, mine did just occassionally, so for many there is only 1 weekend night. Most spend those at dances, seeing a play or hanging with friends. On a Sunday we'd sometimes take the train to Boston, but mostly we caught up on work. If we had a slow night we'd grab some food in town or go home with a day student for dinner.

I can't emphesize enough, we were constantly busy with school activities.

Okay, suze, so tell us then...from a busy student's perspective...does it make much difference whether a BS is close to a city or in the boonies?

As another busy student I think it does make a difference how close the city is to the school. I love going into Boston, which I will do once every month or two. For schools that are farther the opportunities are not weekly and at the time of the school's choosing, not the student's. Being in a more populated area is nice too because there are more local choices - more malls, movie theaters, etc.
Generally there is always something going on during the weekends either arranged through the school or with friends. However, a large portion of the weekend is devoted to sleep and homework.

Ah sleep, how could I forget to mention? It is a big issue to BS kids. Weekends and breaks you catch up on sleep as you can get pretty sleep deprived.

As for being near a city, it just depends on the kid. I didn't go to Boston all that often because I had so much I needed to do on campus. If you're say a 2 sport athlete, much of the year you're just too busy. I was also went abroad for a full year. Senior year you're bust with college apps. There is always just so much going on.

SLEEP is #1! On Saturday nights at SPS the Rector has open house, casual, lots of people go. There are dances too. Sunday go to brunch late in PJs, shop locally, just hang in the houses, watch movies and catch up on work!

Yeah, sleep is vital. I sleep until at least 10:30 or even noon. I have almost no free time here; my frees are used in conference or doing homework, my afternoons are spent in varsity practice, and the weekends we get a ton of homework too.

But for those who wish it, there is always stuff to do...dances, vans, mall trips, movies in the movie theater on campus, etc.
