my first choice major was business but i got in as econ. the letter states however that you can reapply to marshall once you start school. any experience or word of mouth on how hard/easy that is. would it be easier than cc student trying to get into marshall?

How are the apartments at Annenburg? (pros/cons)

When you send in your housing contract, are you supposed to put the roommate questionnaire in the envelope with the contract and check? On my receipt card, it says "Confirmation Payment Received" and "Signed Contract Received" but "Roommate-Matching Scantron Received" wasn't checked. :(

Well...did you send it in? If you didn't, then how do you expect them to have it ;)

they probably did put it in the envelope but was suprised that the receipt card didn't check the roomate matching scantron...

Yes, I did send it in. I put it in the housing envelope, because that was the only envelope in my folder. uyulove is right.

I have not gotten my receipt card yet! when did you get yours?

It's postmarked May 30th.

I imagine the roomate survey goes to a different department for processing , so it may take extra time to post...but I am just speculating.

We put all my son's housing stuff (including the rommate survey) in the envelope we got from USC & mailed it all together as well. Haven't received anything showing that they got any of these items yet.

I know all dorms have free cable access, but in reality, what is the possibility of a TV fitting in a dorm without disturbing the space?

It's very possible to have a TV in a dorm room...so many people have them. I kept my TV on top of the fridge/microwave. The housing people gave me crap for it every once in a while (they check your room once or twice a semester), and they left a note that said to take it down since it was a "fire hazard".

I would put it on the floor for a day or so, then put it right back on there. :)

I would say most students have a television in their dorm rooms.

By "disturbing the space" do you mean that the room is too cramped for a TV, or that the audio may disturb your roommate?

Small televisions work best in the dorms. I think a lot of people just stack them on top of their Fridge/Microwave tower. Flat panel sets are nice you're working with a small ledge like in New/North.

In terms of the noise, dorms aren't going to be the quietest places to start with. Some people don't mind having TV on in the background. You can also just get headphones if you want to listen privately.

However, when you get your roomate assignment, it's a good idea to contact the roomate and work out who's bringing what. If you don't do this and you both end up bringing tv's, that could get a bit cramped.

yeah I meant space wise, not noise wise, since I'm in New that is going to be a problem TV or no TV.

The thing is, the virtual tour of the New dorm makes me doubt where I will be putting the thing. But, I guess I'll be bringing it with me then.

My son says you can put an adapter on your computer & it can show TV shows. That's what he's planning to do rather than having a TV. He's going to have a laptop with such an adapter.

huzzah for Media Center PCs with TV tuner cards! i'm not bringing a TV because of it. coupled with a 17" flat screen, i should be ok.

quick question related to that...my PC has a 5.1 speaker set up (6 speaker surround sound). i haven't gotten my housing contract yet (i just called in for mine since it didnt come the first time...should be getting it soon), but how would i go about setting that up in my dorm?

^LOL i have the same thing! I didn't get to set it up previously but i really want to set it up this time around.. >.< (yay for bass)

I am also bringing a tv (like 10" or so...vcr/tv combo) i hope my roommate doesn't mind.. O_O

Arranging a 5.1 system in your dorm shouldn't be too hard, just don't to expect to mount the speakers on the wall. The housing contract forbids any sort of drilling or mounting, and you can be charged for damage to the room.

Try placing the left, center and right channels on your desk and the subwoofer under the desk? The two rear speakers may be tricky though, depending on what is behind your desk chair.

i finally got my housing assignment...Marks Tower. i'm not exactly sure what that means though...i haven't found any sort of consensus on it, it seems like it's everything from "pretty good/ok" to "bleck." i doubt i'll go for a reassignment since it doesn't seem bad enough to be worth it...and it's already pretty late, and all the good places will probably have been taken. so what are some current Trojan opinions on it?
