Curve Predictions March SAT

haha yeah I was trying to make an angry face with >:(
the science ACT section KILLED me!! I thought that test was gonna be much, much easier but noooooo =[ especially with the stupid time limit!!
walking out of the SAT yesterday i felt soo much more confident and happy than when i walked out of the act

Haha, ok 112358. I guess I need a lesson on recognizing tone, which could improve CR. But yeah, I think ACT is harder because of time constraints more so than anything else.

^ yeah it's hard to get an optimal score when you can't even answer all of the questions!

Lol, or else I need a lesson in conveying tone better...

I walked out of the test feeling great, even thinking I had a shot at 2400... then I realized the math section I failed wasn't experimental x.x

If i get the score that I want, then 7 will be my new lucky number! the sat date was 14th, and that is a multiple of 7, and I was born on the 7th and we get scores of the 7th! yay!

I had an extra CR on an Indian columnist. No offense to Indians, but your ethnicity seems to produce a lot of hard CR passages and questions. The Indian programmer one was...vomits and the columnist one was probably just as bad. if they do another indian one, it should be on like apu or slum dog millionaire or something easier.

Has there ever been a curve where -5 can still get an 800?

The best I've seen is -3.

You can find the curves for all the released SAT's here:
http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

Like 112358 said, -3 is the best.

so many weird posts made on this thread no lie

Some of your guys' curve predictions seem fairly accurate, but some are WAY off. Yes, -5 will never be 800 in any subject. Math and Writing have harsh curves. Also, my SAT instructor showed my class patterns in the curve, such as -3 is usually a fairly significant drop from -2, especially when you get -3 in all three sections, it can drop like 100 points lower than if you got -2 in each section. Also, -7 is unlucky for your score.

-1 in Math is rarely 800, but possible. Usually -1 is 780, on good days 790 and bad days 770.

Writing curve is harsh because it is supposedly easy, so -1 is rarely 800 unless you have an 11-12 essay, and with say an 8-10 essay is more like 780.

Since my instructor showed my class patterns, I think this is pretty close:

Math
-0 800
-1 790
-2 770
-3 730
-4 710
-5 690
-6 670
-7 640

Reading
-0 800
-1 800
-2 800
-3 780
-4 760
-5 750
-6 730
-7 710

Writing (assuming 8-10 essay)
-0 800
-1 780
-2 760
-3 730
-4 710
-5 690
-6 680
-7 650

However, -1 with 11-12 essay can still be 800.

CR curve needs to be adjusted significantly. The Indian Typer passage is absurd and arduous.

wow i hate to be mr pessimistic, but i think a lot of you will be in for a rude awakening.

on the january test, i got one mult choice wrong, an 11 on the essay and got a 790

and on math i got 3 wrong and it brought me all the way down to a 720.

i'm not trying to scare anyone, or say that the curve wont be better, but for those of you who think 3 or 4 wrong will land you in the 800s, you've obviously been mislead..

^I think a better way to put it is that EVERYONE thinks their SAT was harder than every other SAT...

oh well I can still hope, right?

my friend who missed 5 on the math section in jan sats got a 700 on that section

Then your friend is really lucky. usually -4 is around 700.

^ And that would be 3 wrong - so if you don't leave any blank, you can only afford to get 3 wrong to stay 700+ in Math, correct? I was also wondering about your curve for CR. I've rarely ever seen anyone with a 760 (-4, which would be 3 wrong without blanks). I find it strange how the difference between missing 2 (800) and 3 (760) is 40 points on your curve. Or maybe it's just CB.

Sorry, I made a mistake. On the December SAT I got four math questions wrong, which is actually -5, and got 700. So you can miss four and still get 700+

I know; I really hate the way quarter-points are rounded. It just doesn't make sense that two wrong suddenly jumps to four wrong when you miss one more question. IMO they should either drop the guessing penalty or come up with a way for each quarter point to be factored into the score, or at least each half point.
