Cut-throat competition?

So I have heard horror stories involving Cornell and how fellow students try and cut down other students to get on top. Does this actually happen? Is it the same as other schools? This whole idea is probably the only thing telling me that I don't want to go to Cornell if I am admitted..

oh, no! really? i will be glad if it is just nonsense. or if it just doesn't happen in college of engineering!

nah, just a bunch of nonsense. Do a search and you'll see countless threads on it.

As Tsenguun stated, If it is true, it would be most prevalent in majors such as engineering

No, I don't think competiveness is that prevalent in Engineering. I mentioned this in another thread similar to this one, but my engineering friends always seem to work with other people on problem sets. It seems very collaborative. Everybody wants to do well, so they help each other.

Yeah, the teamwork is the best! I agree!

Engineers do work together. I can say that it's even less cut throat than at my high school, which wasn't terribly competitive either.
