I went to a pool training session with my plebe Sat. AM. We did some pool PT and some relays races in the pool. I took shorts, T-shirt, running shoes, and swim suit, but we only used the swim stuff.

what did you do during their study hours?

The plebe I was dragging with got media privileges so I could watch movies while she was studying. They seriously have nothing to do so I guess the powers that be at USNA didn't want the drags to be bored.

I didn't do any swimming but definitely bring swim stuff in case your company does that for SMT. One of the 2nd Class mids told me I could go back to bed instead of doing SMT with them, but I participated anyway(except I must confess I "observed" while they PTd). It was fun and I think you look better that way.

what did your company do for smt? i heard that sometimes they go to the e/o-courses.

is there more than one candidate per company or are there ~30 candidates?

"what did you do during study hours?"
DD said her plebe had a movie to watch for government class during study hours, so she went along.

"..is there more than one candidate per company...?"
I think she said there were two drags in her company. I talked to another CVW participant who said she was the only drag in her company.

did you have much time to see other midshipman? My squad leader from NASS offered to show me around- will he have much time to do so, or can I not leave my assigned company?

I was wondering the same thing. My squad leader said to ask someone to find her. Will there be time?

My D said that there was one other drag in her company. There can be as little as one drag per company or up to 4. Definitely bring your swim and work out gear because my daughter said she used it since her plebe was on a varsity sport. Yes, the plebes do have special media privileges (and they don't have to chop) if they have a drag.

do plebes get to carry on during meals, too? do candidates eat with the brigade?

^^^^^
Candidates get to tag along and participate in each activity that their plebe escort has scheduled during his/her normal hectic day at the academy, including eating meals with the Brigade and sleeping in Bancroft Hall.

so do plebes get to carry on at meals?

CVW tomorrow. Who'll be there?

GA's daughter will be there NTL 1700. Actually, we'll be in Michelson Hall at 1500 for a private briefing from Dr. Chris Kinter on the pre-med progarm at USNA.

yay! i'm gonna be there. i'm actually getting to Annapolis at about 1 pm, so i've got some time to kill.

I am really interested in the pre-med program as well but i havent heard a lot about it GA

^^^^^
I will try to get a copy of the Power Point presentation and will make it available to interested parties. Please remember that there are only 15 billets for med school out of USNA. The Class of 2008 has 19 midshipmen competing for those 15 slots; there are going to be four unhappy mids this evening at service selection. The Superintendent made a request for additional billets but was turned down by the Bureau of Naval Personnel.

We are a nation at war and the emphasis is on warfare designators. Those interested in the Seabees/CEC, Oceanography, Intel, EDO, AEDO, Public Affairs, and the like should consider another commissioning source. The academy may have a limited number of billets available in these non-traditional career fields but it isn't something that you can count on. The emphasis at USNA is: Surface Warfare, Submarine Warfare, Naval Aviation, and Marine Corps. Everything else is secondary, provisional and conditional.

Not getting what you want at service selection does not prevent you from pursuing your goals in the future. Once you receive your warfare qualification, you can request a lateral transfer to another speciality. You will see many JAGs wearing wings or surface warfare devices that they obtained prior to attending Law School. The key is to be successful at your initial service selection to be recommended for a lateral transfer to anoter speciality. Once you graduate, performance is everything!!!

^^^extremely sound advice!
