D in AP Calculus AB

Okay, so right now I'm in the 2nd semester of my Junior year of high school, so this is pretty crucial time. For this semester, I currently have a D (66%) in Calculus and I was wondering how bad this will affect my chances to attend a UC, if this were to stay.

For background info, my teacher is not the problem for the reason why I have this grade, because he is an excellent teacher who gives lots of practice and offers tutoring. I am not having a difficult time trying to understand the concepts, I'm just slow when it comes to solving problems. When I do my homework at night, it could take me up to two hours to do my homework, but I understand what I'm doing and my answers are correct. And when it comes to tests (which we are only given 1 hour to do) I do poorly, for that reason. I finished my A-G requirements as well have the amount of years that colleges recommend for courses. I'm also taking AP English, Lang & Comp, APUSH, and Honors Chem. To surprise, I'm not even looking to be in the Engineering or Science field. I want to major in Film.

Will this diminish the chances of getting accepted?

Depends, if you do well on the AP exam and get a 5, they might not concentrate much on your grade because the AP exam is univeral.

Then why did you sign up for AP Calculus? Should have signed up for regular calc instead.

My school does not offer just “regular” Calculus. It’s only AP. I took Pre Calculus/Math Analysis last year and aced that class both semesters.

Please try to do your best and get your grade up if you still have time.
While it isn’t closely related to your major, a D in any class still looks terrible.

AP exam scores, while important, aren’t weighted as strongly as your actual grade in class, since the AP exam is only a measure of one day’s work, while the class is a measure of an entire year’s work.
