oh and also noone cares about anything u did before 9th grade

Good to finally see someone with a focused scope of ECs. I'd bring that out as much as possible.

Lots of people get IB scores of 40+ which is what me and a lot of others at my school got... Just a heads-up I guess - make another part of your academics compensate.

Well my grades are pretty much set now so there's nothing i can really do about them now :(
I know Columbia's a huge reach for me, which is why I'm considering applying ED...would that help??

Lol definately it's my dream school :D
Do people ever get in with SAT or IB scores like mine though, when their ec's and essays are really strong?

Probably about a third of Columbia's class is at or below your SAT score. So it's possible, even though most of those spots are reserved for athletes and URM's.

Why did you choose Tara@NYU when you wanna go to Columbia?

Anyway, call me a pessimist, but 38 isn't that impressive. But since you can't change any of that right now, you might wanna retake your SATs. If you want to apply, all you can do now is to work a lot on your applicants and to put a lot of thought into your essays. If you were a sophomore, I'd have more advice for you but it's a bit too late to add anything at this stage.

don't let these a-hole prefroshs discourage you....an IB score of 38 is pretty solid but remember you DO get 3 bonus points for extended essay, TOK and CAS which you didn't count....so if you get full credit for those you would have a 41 which is VERY solid.

A "Third Culture Kid" is one who has spent a lot of time in one more cultures that is not his or her own. For example, a friend of mine is ethnically Japanese but grew up in Tanzania and went to high school in Belgium. Columbia admissions loves kids like that. I can't remember where I saw the statistic, but Columbia's "overseas" recruiting efforts are very strong--as are the university's numbers of international kids (and this doesn't count Americans who have lived abroad).

i've done the IB, my school had the same system of 11th grade achievement scores and IB predicted. frankly, 38 is on the low side of the IB spectrum, (are you getting +3 for sure? if it can't be known then columbia will probably do a +2 into the calculation, because +3 is rare) my high school (very EC heavy) did not get a kid into columbia for as long as they recorded data (6 years) who had below a 38, it was almost like they had a cut off at 38/42, a few 38/42s got in and several 40+/42 made it. 35 will tarnish your record a little, it's helped though the HLs are 7s. So basically, you chances are low, those chances can however materialize, if you try to improve the grades somehow (not through SATs, your SAT1 is fine), and you need to write great essays and have strong EC commitment. Columbia is definitely worth a shot, you definitely have a chance. I know 38 predicteds that got in, it's possible.
