Need some guidance/advice about camps/showcases. I have junior defenseman who is interested in playing lax in college. (His brother is a D1 runner walkon but made top 7 his sophomore year. He only ran 3 years in high school. )He is a good athlete and has a high lax IQ. He has only done rec lacrosse since u13, no club or travel teams and only played high school. He previously played hockey for about 10 years. He attended 2 lax showcase camps in the fall and got 3 lower D3 offers. He likes the northeast- likes the cold, likes schools with hockey. I know we are very late in this process. Are there showcases, etc. this summer we should target that draw schools from the northeast? So many seem super elite and are by invitation only. He is trying out for a summer club team. I also signed him up for 2 defense camps as he really wants to be pushed and become better at defense. Any recommendations on showcases for northeast schools where you don’t have to be super elite and any other camp recommendations for D minded players?
The most elite lacrosse schools are going to be at the elite camps. Get an invitation.
All the showcase camps and tournaments will have the all the coaches, but many will be looking at sophomores and juniors, not seniors. He is going to have to hustle to get the coaches over to the fields he’s playing on to look at him. It will be less competitive D3 and D2 coaches hanging out watching the rising seniors. If he has a few schools he’s looking at and a realistic chance of making those teams, he should start contacting the coaches. DOn’t wait for them to come to him; they won’t. Emails, film, information on his stats, where he’ll be this summer. You might look at showcases out west to ‘stand out’. All the east coast coaches are at the Denver and California camps (they like a vacation too!)
Probably not going to make it onto a top 20 team. Look to the #25-50 ranked schools. Vassar, Connecticut College, Union, Trinity might work.
