D3 softball...no clue

I'm a high school senior and I play softball. I play for my hs team and a travel team. I play middle infield, third base, and outfield. I'm a pretty good fielder but I don't have the best bat, although I can slap from the left side of the plate and I'm fast. My gpa is a 94-95 but ACTs and SATs aren't very good. I love to play softball but I don't have a lot of experience-I've only been playing for 4 years but I'm very athletic and coachable. I want to play softball in college and im looking at some d3 schools but, I'm not sure if I'm good enough and I'm not sure how to go about contacting coaches, etc. I've played with some girls who went on to play d2 and d3 softball in college but i was probably as good as all of them- I'm a decent judge of my own ability. so my questions are...
1) Realistically, do I have a chance at playing d3 softball in college?
2) is it to late to get in touch with some d3 college coaches?
3) if not, how do I contact them- do I email them, send a letter, call them, or visit the
campus?
4) what do I say when I contact them?

Any answers are appreciated. Thank you!

Rce92847: I’m sorry no one replied. If you’re still interested, I could make some suggestions. If you’re a 2012 senior, you’ve missed the main recruiting window. However… you still have a chance to play. Reality is, D3 programs vary widely, some conferences are D1 caliber and some are worse than your travel team. Your best bet would be to target a half a dozen schools that have your academic interests and email the coaches with exactly what you’ve said above. Look at their websites and see if they’re regional or national teams. You could probably get on a team as a “walk-on”, but not all schools allow that. Still, some encourage it, and that’s where you want to go.

1) yes
2) no
3) go to the website, email the coach, and fill out their recruiting form
4) prepare an athletic profile (1 page max) of relavant softball experience, academic info and ECs. If you’re fast, put your home-to-first time down. If its under 3 seconds, that’s good. Don’t obsess about stats, a good coach doesn’t care. Serious recruits prepare videos/DVDs of skills demo, and there’s got to be people in your area that make them. It may not be worth doing it at this point. Don’t give up! If a coach doesn’t answer your email, send it again and cc: the director of admissions. Tell them you won’t apply to the college unless the coach returns your email. that will get you a reply, for sure.

Some of the competitive D3 schools finished their recruiting half a year ago, but walk-ons happen even in D1. Please reply to this post if you’re still interested.

Actually, for D3, you may hv a great chance as they dint really know who is coming until fall. Take all the advice above. Go on berecruited.com. Get busy. If not picked for the team, you can always try to walk on. Go for it!

Find a school that you think will be a great fit and contact the coach.
