Hi,
I'm interested in applying for schools this fall for entrance in the fall of 2013.
Currently, I have my eyes on Exeter, Deerfield, Choate, and SPS.
Please let me know if there are other schools that suit me.

I am a male, rising sophomore.
If I apply to Deerfield or Exeter, I plan on applying as a repeat sophomore.

-Currently attend an academically challenging private day school.
-I would pay full tuition

ECs:
Varsity Squash, I would probably play #5 or #6 at Exeter.
JV Lacrosse, I'll play varsity on our school team as a sophomore, but not sure about Deerfield.
Diversity Club
-Lived abroad in Japan 6th grade (also half japanese), living there in July and taking Japanese class at a local YMCA.
-Film, will submit two short films.
-Piano (5 years) not that serious.. my mom makes me,

Community Service:
10 hours at local nursing home playing piano
In August, I am volunteering in inner-city public schools 3 hours a day, 4 days a week.
(~48 hours)

Bio SAT: 600
(probably won't submit)

Let me know if there are other schools I should consider.
Thanks.

Because Deerfield is ranked #3 nationally for lacrosse, so an extra year to catch up would be good. Exeter is also ~#15, so the extra year will help there. Also, those schools are probably most academically challenging, so repeating will help + boost my chances (since I only had a 3.4 freshman year).

Being admitted as a repeat sophomore or new junior is very competitive, and on top of that being half-asian wouldn’t work to your advantage. All the schools you listed have ~<20% acceptance rates, too. It sounds like you are good at sports but not to the extent that you’d be recruited, and there will definitely be applicants with better academic records. I would add a “safety” school to your list.

It sounds like you’d do great at boarding school, since you’re a student-athlete, but prep-school admissions are only becoming more discriminating.

Also, as mentioned, research whether or not a school offers Japanese before you make that a point on your application.

Also, I wouldn’t consider SPS or Choate less challenging than DA or PEA. On top of that, SPS admits very few students for 5th form (junior) year so your chances would be much better there as a repeat sophomore, too.
