Dan Vilenchik

So, I'm taking Math 32A next quarter.

I originally enrolled for Butler, but I just found out he switched schedules with this guy named Dan Vilenchik.

Danny Vilenchik

Preliminary searching and googling have shown this guy's new (kinda like Christina Bauer for Chem 20B).

He's from Israel...or at least he got his degree there.

Any thoughts?

Why did you feel the need to google him? The math department has a website…

Anyway, apparently he taught 115A in the fall and 3B this quarter, so he’s not completely inexperienced.

I have him for Math 3B right now, and he is a really good professor. His accent can be funny at times :stuck_out_tongue: but it’s not hard to understand. He goes over things very nicely. I like him a lot. He’s also not too hard.

Bump - anyone else have feedback about him?

He’s really dry most of the time - doesn’t really smile. Actually that pic is the only smile I’ve ever seen out of him.

Otherwise he really knows his stuff and teaches it very well.

When I emailed him, he put a smiley face, haha

Dude, that’s what Dr. Bauer of Chem 20B did to me!

lol. It’s true he seems kind of serious, and I’ve never gone to office hours but from the email he replied and when I asked him questions after class and during tests, he seems nice.

How easy is he? I’m choosing between him and Butler, and they both seem to be good profs, but Butler has really hard tests.

I believe my friend is taking probably something around what you’re taking with him this quarter (I’m taking Math 3B) and apparently his first midterm was pretty easy (he even wrote in the email “there should have been a negative curve.” Everything is based off of the homework so if you didn’t do it in the homework, you do not need to know how to do it. The second midterm wasn’t that hard (even though I didn’t really get a good grade on it… :P). The material was harder (not the test itself), and I found a lot of the problems were from homework. Also, there’s only 5 questions, 20 points each. So I only got a bad grade because I totally forgot how to do one problem. Otherwise, the second test was pretty easy (the average was very low however). He probably thought the first midterm was so easy, he made it more difficult

greaaat proffessor…and this is coming from a 2nd year

hes a great prof. veryyy intelligent and friendly
