Dance auditions and decisions 2017/18

@dancemome during our q&a he mid-March. They don’t have a set date by any means. My D isn’t very enthused about hearing her Pace decision. She just didn’t feel it went very well. Good luck to your daughter, I know they didn’t keep many for interviews so it may be a good sign!

Can you or anyone else talk about the ballet, and specifically- the amount of pointe work and partnering that is done? My DD is looking for a school that still has a solid amount of ballet, and it seems most schools now really push modern. In fact- the Harrt School was the only audtion we’ve to that even did pointe in the audtion! Any insight is appreciated.

@sarahj14 what is your daughter looking for in a college program? And, is she a senior already applying? There are schools out there with a classical ballet focus as well as schools with more of an equal focus on ballet and jazz and/or modern, including pointe work. As an aside, Butler didn’t have pointe in their audition and they’re one of the top classical ballet programs. I see you posted on a musical theater thread as well so it would help to know more about your daughter’s aspirations and preferences.

I didn’t even realize it was a MT post! She has applied to several, and right now NYU Tisch and Hartt School are at top of list. TBH, she didn’t end up applying to Butler and some of the other “ballet” schools bc of location. We are in Central NY and she didn’t want to be a plane ride away and would prefer some proximity to NYC. She is however doing a video submission for UNCSA as we have family in NC.

What would a “solid “ amount of ballet look like to her? Daily classes? Pointe as a required class? It sounds like she has some good ballet options on her list. Good luck to her as she awaits her final decisions. Has she gotten in to any of her schools yet?

There were people held after for interview at Pace Dance Audition?? I thought they weren’t going to keep anyone after. That everyone goes home and then we all find out yes or no either way? So does that mean if you didn’t get asked for interview that your done?

@elenimal they only kept a couple people back for a few minutes at our audition but they said that getting called to speak with them wasn’t a deciding factor on if you get in. Whether or not it actually was, I have no idea, just based off of what they said I wouldn’t count your dancer out.

Thank you!! My daughter already has a few acceptances but Pace was her number 1! It’s all in God’s hands.

@elenimal the acting decisions have already started rolling out. we would just love to have an answer either way. I can’t wait to have this sigh of relief from the anxiety!

We also are waiting for Pace so we can finish the puzzle!!

Hi! My daughter is just gearing up for application and audition season as she will be attending college in the Fall of 2020. Her #1 choice is Fordham/Ailey so I’m interested to learn more about your daughters experience at the audition as well as your daughter as a dancer. My daughter is trained at a competition studio (12 years) as well as a private ballet school (4 years) and done summer intensives at Ailey, ABT and Complexions. Wondering your daughters experience? Thank you so much!!
