Dance auditions and decisions 2017/18

D18’s friend heard about acceptance at Fordham/Ailey yesterday. D18 hasn’t heard anything yet (she’s not particularly interested, though it would have been flattering). We wonder if her friend’s attendance at their SI helped in consideration of her application.

My daughter is also waiting to hear from Fordham/Ailey. I wonder why they are not putting out all the decisions at once. This is concerning…I hope it doesn’t mean bad news if we haven’t heard yet.

I’m guessing Fordham/Ailey are telling accepted students first and rejections/waitlists will come slightly later (probably with RD results which may be tonight?). Unclear if they have given out all the acceptances yet, but with only a few dozen to contact, it wouldn’t take long.

Maybe Fordham is going in alphabetical order? What’s the first initial of the last name of those who have heard already? Of course, the notifications could all just be random, just like all these college acceptances are anyway. ; )

My daughter got her rejection today at 2:50pm =( We are at the beginning of the alphabet.

So sorry : ( This is such a hard process. I hope she gets some good news soon.

@Chickies11 Did the decision come via email, or was there just a letter posted in the portal, as with @24bunheadmom20?

@izzyb1 not sure what you mean by not the rigor your daughter wanted? Too much it too little? The last two broadway shows we have seen had ppu alumni and we also saw Alonzo lines ballet recently -also ppu alumni. A few years ago we saw ppu perform at nycda destiny rising (this is how we initially became aware of the program). They also performed this year. My daughter follows several dancers who attend ppu on instagram. There is some amazing talent there because they give good scholarships. Also Matthew Powell (on faculty) has taught at one of my daughters summer intensives and she reallyliked him. She also follows millennium dance which has a branch in Pittsburgh…we like the triple threat approach as my daughter wants to be a working dancer and I understand diversity increases opportunity. Plus the large size of the program and alumni connections seeened like a huge plus…

D18 just texted to say she got into Fordham/Ailey. Don’t know the details, but it appears they are still sending things out today (though she has a tendency to miss emails that end up in her spam folder and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have checked her portal proactively). RD is out as well, so I guess all will be clear very soon. However, we would need a lot of merit money to even consider it as a possibility.

@Twoin18 Have your daughter check her acceptance again. At the bottom there is a link to “financial aid”. My daughter’s academic award was there. And for everyone waiting, we also have a friend waitlisted, although we’re not sure if that’s a Fordham waitlist or Ailey waitlist.

Nice to hear some great news amidst the disappointment it truly is brutal!! Congrats on Ailey to all!!

@Twoin18 Congrats to your daughter! Must feel great to finally hear after all these months. What is RD?

RD = Regular Decision (i.e. all other academic admissions)

Sorry @Chickies11 and congrats @Twoin18

Rejections are so hard. I have a daughter who wanted to but didn’t pursue dance. She is an introvert and doesn’t say much but I believe she has regretted it. Kudos to your girls who are pursuing their dreams!

Well that’s NFW. The minimum $15K Dean’s scholarship. Most annoying when running the NPC before we applied (which doesn’t require you to specify the program) suggested she would get $32K in academic scholarships based on her stats (4.0 UW, 35 ACT), which would have made it worthy of consideration.

I wonder if they give less merit aid to dancers because the prestige of the program means parents will pay up, whereas for an academic admit Fordham faces a lot more competition for students? We will see if she cares enough for us to appeal, given how much she likes Utah (and the merit money there). She was wearing her Utah sweatshirt to school today and just accepted their housing offer last night.

@grit2018 I meant that the program at PP may be too rigorous for my daughter. She is used to dancing 3 hours a day at school and then 2-3 times a week outside of school. She has 2 days a week where she leaves the house at 6:15am and walks in at 10:15 pm (her studio and school are an hour commute). By the third day it is such a welcome relief to not have dance at night. At the q & a one of the dance majors said that most of her days are from 8-4. It sounds like 4 dance classes and 1-2 non dance. Then there could be rehearsal from 5-9. I am worried that those kind of hours day in and day out for my daughter may be too much. She likes to have balance and likes her “breaks” and down time. I have no doubt in my mind that PP has amazing dancers there and that they are coming out of there working. That’s why my husband feels that if that is her end goal she would do whatever it takes but I am afraid it would burn her out.

Ok- my daughter is looking for that rigor she thrives in it and comes home after a long day wanting to practice or rehearse something new she may have learned. I think most of those top programs have crazy days and that is why double majoring is tough with the bfa degree.

Just received rejection for Fordham/Ailey. It would have been nice to get in, but, she’s ok. We were at the Rutger’s Honor College program today and she really loves everything about it. Waiting on NYU, which is her top program. That one will really hurt, but she is being realistic about her chances!

Congratulations to everyone whose dancer was accepted!! Nice achievement:)

Congrats to your daughter @Twoin18 and my sympathies to everyone whose kids are hearing no’s. DD had two tough rejections early on in the process, including her top choice, and it cast a shadow on the whole audition season after that.

Congratulations to your daughter @Twoin18!
