OK, I'm not seeing any info on here about the University of Utah, even though they have a very highly regarded ballet program. Darned cheap, too, even if you figure in out of state tuition. Broad array of majors and degree programs. Performances and touring. Great facility, great location. Serious.

My s wanted a solid dance department (BA) with strong academics as well. Some of the schools we that visited, while always mentioned for their dance programs, seemed to have strong and very supportive dance departments.

Northwestern University
Emory
Duke
GW
Wash U

OOPS

This answer may come as a suprise, but the dance program at Oklahoma University is awesome! From what I've heard it's the only university to offer a major in ballet.

Collegegirl2014, what you 'heard' is simply incomplete information.

There are a number of Universities that offer majors in classical ballet. For example, Indiana University, Butler University, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Utah for starters. Dominican University's Lines Ballet BFA program is a ballet major in the contemporary style. There are others that have begun to emphasize the ballet programs of their dance departments in the last several years that should also be considered.

Granted, the majority of University dance programs may have a more modern bent to them (as that would be more in keeping with the philosophical basis for a liberal arts university), but many of those do also have serious advanced level ballet classes as part of the major.
