I am sophomore currently in high school and I want to be a neurosurgeon. I understand that many people get a science major, but my passion is dancing. If I'm going to spend the next sixteen years of my life studying my head off, then I might as well spend my four years of college doing something Iove. Would it be possible for me to get into the Cornell dance program with only a 3.6 UW and average EC's? Probably not. I've only been dancing for two years and I'm average. So my question is would I be able to do a dance major and still be able to prerequisites for med school? Thank you. (:

It’s not about getting into the dance program, it’s about getting into Cornell. The dance program does not require auditions but obviously Cornell is a very competitive university.

At the higher levels I would expect most of the dancers in the program to have had at least 10 years of training (although I would also expect that few super-serious dancers would be there–there are many more highly regarded programs for dance). If you don’t mind starting at a lower level–and you get into Cornell–you might really enjoy it. Of course, you might also consider looking into more “recreational” dance activities too. Pre-med is obviously a very challenging track and you might be surprised at the time commitment.
