Hi! I made this account just for some advice on this subject. I apologize if I posted this in the wrong spot. I am applying to Yale SCEA this November, and I am also a professional dancer under a contract (I’m a soloist, I could only wish that I was principal!). I’m only 17, so it’s safe to say that I’ve done some high level dancing in my life already. Is it necessary that I submit a dance supplement? Should I focus on the part of me that isn’t centered around dance? My regional admissions officer already knows who I am/what I’ve done, and she went to my Nutcracker performance last December. I will be applying as an applied physics major, if that helps any.
If dance is something you plan to continue in college as activity, especially for one of the school groups, I’d include it. Your application does not need to be unidimensional. If dance is an important part of who you are and will continue to be, I would not hide it.
I think it is your call. If you feel that the information will be presented through the activities on your application and the admission officer’s visit that is fine. But it does sound like your dance is at a sufficiently high level that a supplement could be a plus especially if you plan to continue dancing at Yale. And as noted above, it is fine to showcase more than one aspect of your skill set and interests.
