I'm a hip-hop dancer...in a VERY SUBurban environment. I've never been to class and I've never won anything for dancing (except a dinky "class of 2011" superlative -___-). For me, it's really just a fun thing to do outside of school... That being said, idk if it will help me. Like, I know it won't HURT me, but this is pretty much the only thing on my app that isn't "cookie cutter." any thoughts?

ps. on my resume, i didn't really elaborate a lot on what i did for dance.
i basically just wrote:
1) director/choreographer for this annual cultural show (2007)
2) dance team captain/choreographer (2009)
3) foundd my own dance crew (perform at local charity and school events, even six flags! lol) (2009)
4) founded my own dance class at the library (2010)
5) dancer/choreographer for another cultural show lol (2010)

sighafhd;aue;kdlkjh i think i should have gone more in depth or something.
i feel like its not enough compared to girls who have been doing ballet or jazz or tap or contemporary for like 10 years straight, w/ awards and competitions and everything.

:/

any thoughts?

Who said that Columbia’s dance is the classical type?

If there is one thing about Columbia that I learned, it’s that it’s diverse and everything about it is diverse.

^ true that. ugh aljdfh i know they dont. its just that what im doing still seems like very little compared to say, people who have been classically trained in HIP HOP for 10 years, know what i mean? :/

i regret not submitting a dance supplement or somethingalkjalfh

oh! and i meant like classically trained (not classical dance)
:)

like, classes and stuff :)

Calm down there. Just tell them what you did.

That’s what I did.

I joined my neighborhood’s soccer team. And not my school one. It may seem “less pro” but at the end I still played soccer.

You are overstraining yourself IMO.

oh definitely.
i totally just spent an hour reading posts by other people overstraining themselves haha.
collegeconfidential does things to you haha

ok you’re certainly right. but do you think its better if i elaborate on each of those things (for my other apps)?

you’re fine. your resume looks good. calm down.

By all means go ahead , it won’t hurt you, it can only help ;)

As a matter of fact I never mentioned joining my neighborhood’s soccer team at all on my app. The only time I actually talked about it was during the interview.

ahh speaking of interviews!
how did yours go?
my interviewer seemed reaally interested in all this dance stuff, but she cut the interview 10 min short.

good sign? bad sign?

@axel
thanks lol. i definitely need to.

For my interview, I was lucky enough to get an interviewer that just graduated from Columbia last May. So she was still fresh, and you could easily talk with her without feeling nervous.

I tried to talk about as much stuff that I had not written on my application, as I can.

It was about 40 minutes long. I basically ended the conversation because I had asked her like 5 questions (good amount) and we had nothing else to say.

She told me I did good in the interview ^_^

As for your interview, my guess is that the interviewer was very busy, and wasn’t really your fault for ending so quickly.

sweet!! that sounds awesome. yeah i had a pretty young columbia alumna as my interviewer, too :)

i honestly just feel like EVERYTHING i’ve done could have been done better…apps, sats, essays, ec’s.

it basically just hit me today that dec 9 is next week.

As my GC tried to cheer me up when I had a “nervous break down” from my low SAT score…

“What is done, is done”. We can’t do anything to change it, so you might as well not worry about it. :S …don’t know if that’ll cheer you up a bit, but it cheered me up in a weird way lol.

a litttttle. lol thank you! =)
and you’re completely right. guess we can’t do anything about it now.
my only problem NOW is…uh…i have 11 more apps to do/start.

-__-

^^^LOL! So do I XD …it’s a good thing that all of them are pretty much Commonapp…just gotta do supplements.

HAHAHA wow wooo yeahhh procrastinators!
actually, thats probably a really bad thing.
but you know, it feels good that im not alone!
=)

hey ps. do you mind chancing (totally not supposed to be a verb, but whatever) me? ill return the favor?
