Dance

Hey everyone! I was just wondering, did anyone, when they went to Tufts, decide to try out a new dance form? Maybe an introduction class to ballet or jazz. I was thinking about it so I would appreciate any comments on the experience. Thank you!

They need to get a class on breakdancing or new jack swing or something. If it's not related to hip hop then it's a waste of everyone's time and money.

Ballet...LOL!!!!

Hey Scalz,

Ignore him. Anyway, I didn't take any intro dance classes but I have friends who have and have loved it. One actually ended up becoming a dance minor after loving her intro to ballet class. I watched an end-of-the-year presentationa nd was pretty impressed; and take note that I'm a 12-years-and-going-strong ballet dancer. (Just dance for fun now; when I was 15 I thought I'd be a professional ballerina; a foot injury ended that dream!)

P.S.: It just occurred to me that if you visit campus, you could probably arrange in advance to sit in on (perhaps even participate?) in a dance class.

Yeah I'm only kidding. I might F with ball room dancing, salsa or something if given the chance. I'd like to do that, yes.

But hip hop is the foundation and when I say hip hop I don't mean that ridiculous choreographed stuff you see when you go to high school basketball games. I'm not talking Jessica Alba in "Honey" hip hop. Please, get with the real kids.

Smif N Wessun!!!!!

ARE there hiphop, ballroom dancing, salsa dance classes? Can you take them even if you aren't a dance major/minor...? Do people usually do such things (I have no experience whatsoever in dance, and would really like to try if given the opportunity :) But I don't want to be surrounded by expert dance majors who have ten years of ballet or jazz experience, lol)

There is a ballroom dance team which is actually top-ranked, from what I understand. There is a salsa-dancing student club, too. I don't know if they're taught as classes though. I think the Dance Department website is your best bet.

That's the thing though "hiphop" as a style of dance has absolutely nothing to do with hiphop music. That's a perversion of the culture. I'm talking about stuff that actually eminated out of hip hop music. Breakdancing, funkdance, or

Tufts doesn't have a dance major, but there are lot of opportunities for dance. There are ballroom classes but unless you are on the team, they are pretty pricey. Everybody Dance Now! is a student organisation that offers all kinds of dance classes from Intro to Ballet to Hip-Hop.

But you can minor in dance!
