Darn Nervous about College Admissions

Heres the basics.

Typical Asian male with typical Asian stats
Upper middle class

SAT -2390
SAT II - Bio 800, Math IIC 800, Chinese 800

4.0 unweighted 4.4 weighted rank top 10% (our school uses deciles)
I am also ELC which is given to top 4% of the high school by the UCs.

Currently taking:
AP US Government
AP Literature
AP Chemistry
Japanese 4 Honors

Dual enrollment at community college
Physics 4a

Searching for low paid employment, tutoring possibly. I used to tutor kids in various subjects: math, SATs, but this is undocumented. Does it even count?

Also took 6 other community college courses

Here is where it gets much less uhh... good:

Extracurriculars
CSF Secretary - similar to NHS except in for Californians.
Go Club President -Go is that asian game with black and white stones. Extremely popular in asian countries, but not in the west. Basically the chess of the east except it is seen as intellectual.
Volunteered at wheelchair sports camp in summer of junior year
Volunteered at library as a junior
Volunteered at food distribution place for needy as a sophomore
Volunteer as peer tutor at school as junior and senior.

Participated in a some math competitions:
Santa Clara Math Competition
CAML
Mandelbrot

Qualified for AIME

PSAT commended

Recommendations: Ok to above average
Essays: Should be decent

Here are the colleges:
Harvard - how much of a reach?
Princeton - how much of a reach?

UPenn Wharton - how much of a reach?
UChicago -how much of a reach?
Stanford - how much of a reach?
NYU Stern - how much of a reach?

Washington University in St Louis - possibly slight reach?
Cornell - possibly slight reach?
John Hopkins - ?

UCs for safeties.

California resident. 30 minute drive from Stanford, but not crazy about the school.

Nervous? I don't think you have anything to be nervous about! Except for the EC's, which you are aware of.

But you have great scores, great GPA, everything but the EC's.

So what do you think my chances are? Thanks.

Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, reach. Hopkins, Chicago, Cornell- should be accepted. Wash U- should be in, but they have a strange reputation. Penn, NYU- I expect that you will get in, but don't know much about the business school admissions. Why don't you add Dartmouth- they have a good business school. Try to do really well on the essays and to portray yourself as a dynamic but genuine individual to make up for the non-flashy ECs. I really don't think that you need to be nervous. You will end up in a good school and will probably have to choose among a few of them.

Yeah, you are strong and will end up at a good school. Probably not Harvard or Princeton, but still some good schools. Don't worry, with your grades, rank, and test scores you will be fine.

You have listed your recs as OK to average. Why, burnt any bridges with the teachers? usually teachers love 4.0 GPA kids.
Not getting 'great' recs can hurt your chances big time at top schools, so work your charm on the teachers.

mune ga dokidoki suru.
bump

Yeah, you're good man!

You have really good stats, but with HYPS colleges it is always random.

Here are the colleges:
Harvard - sligh reach
Princeton - sligh reach

UPenn Wharton - match
UChicago - match
Stanford - slight reach
NYU Stern - safety

Washington University in St Louis - match
Cornell - match
John Hopkins - match

Darn Nervous about College Admissions , that's a pretty funny joke

Harvard-Reach for anyone EC's okay but they don't show a particular passion
Princeton-Reach, likewise harvard

Upenn Wharton-slight Reach- Wharton is quite a school however you seem highly qualified, since its wharton there is a slight reach
UChicago-Match/safety
Stanford-Reach, likewise Harvard/Princeton
NYU Stern-Saftey

Cornell-Match
Washington UV St. Louis-Match
John Hopkins-Match/Safety

Your an excellent student, why be nervous? Good luck with all your apps, just have some good essays & recs, and your good to go.

Unfortunately you look a lot like a lot of applicants to those schools. Focus on getting GREAT recs and writing an application that really sets you apart. The ECs are a problem though.

The good news is that except for the lottery schools you'll have a lot of choice. If money matters you should get great merit aid at schools where you'll easily be the top of the pool.
