***Dartmouth Class of 2022 RD Applicants Discussion***

has anyone else applied but not received an email with a portal? I’m quite concerned, I applied over two months ago

Dartmouth have an especially high ED admit rate because it includes athletes. Many varsity athletes commit and are accepted ED, artificially inflating this percentage for non athletes.

Which prompt did everyone choose in the writing supplement?? They were very interesting!

Hi all, I’m a freshman at Dartmouth right now. I posted a little on the ED threat and thought I’d do the same here. Would love to answer any questions you have about Dartmouth or the application process! Lmk

@dart21 thanks for your offer to help! I’m very interested in applying to dartmouth, loved the campus when i came for a tour this summer. My GPA is kinda low though, but my SAT is within range. Do u know what is the average GPA of accepted students?

@camchar88 I don’t have an exact range and doubt you could find an accurate one online. High school GPA can often be difficult to interpret due to differences in context-- i.e. a 3.9 from an ultra-competitive high school might be viewed differently than a 3.9 from a less competitive high school. Couple that with the fact that high schools use different GPA scales (4.0 W/UW, 100-pt W/UW, etc.) makes it even trickier to interpret and come up with an average for accepted students.

Ultimately, if you have made the most of your high school experience and really love the school, I’d consider applying! Applications are viewed holistically, so there are a myriad of ways that you can stand out. Show how much you love Dartmouth on your application, too!

Hi guys! For the longer supplemental essay (the 250-300 word one), did anyone write one that was closer to 225 words? I like my essay at 225 and don’t know if I really need to get it to 250.

@WinnerWannabe

If you think it is the best it can be right now, and adding to it would only distract from its brilliance, then I wouldn’t encourage you to add anything just for length’s sake

@WinnerWannabe It’s your choice. Mine is 295, but that is only because that happened to be the number of words it took for me to say what I needed to say. My common app essay is not even close to the 650 word limit, and neither are many of my supps. I think that you are perfectly fine as long as your essay is strong enough as it is!

@WinnerWannabe The way I look at it (and I would guess many of the parents/adults on the forum) is that it’s not ok. You should follow the instructions to the letter (or in this case the number). With that said, the only people that can truly answer your question are admissions officers - I would just call admissions and ask them if 250-300 is the upper limit (in which case you are fine) or if that is the specific range they are looking for (in which case, you need to add 25-75 words).

Hi to-be '22s! I’m an international '20 ready to help if anyone needs some mentoring. Good luck to all of you and don’t stress out too much about this whole process!

@Camchar88 first sorry for the late response, I forgot to check this again for a while :’) So happy you’re looking at Dartmouth! So it was helpful for a few reasons, I used it more for some of my other schools than for Dartmouth because they were ones where the decision dates weren’t as set so I used them to figure out when I’d be finding out lol! But also looked at stats a lot and those kind of things as well.

For my peer rec I also asked one of my best friends, just ask someone who knows you well and that you’d feel comfortable writing a letter for you

I didn’t post much of my info last year, but for an idea, I applied RD, I had a 1510 sat, 4.5 weighted, lots of IB classes (my school had mostly IB not many AP), honestly pretty average extracurriculars and not many leadership roles or standout things like that, to this day I still wonder how I got in to be honest but so happy to be there! Hope this helps!!

@clvmsy It was March 30th last year. Pretty sure it is like within a few days of that every year, the Ivies don’t really release decisions early like a lot of other schools sadly :frowning:

Did anyone else get an email that said this?:

Need more time? We understand that many candidates will be completing and submitting their applications this weekend. If you have trouble submitting your application, or if you just need a few extra days, you are welcome to submit your materials at any point on or before Friday, January 5, 2018.

I did

I did too. Is this saying that everyone has until Jan. 5th now?

If the Jan 5 thing is true, that would be a life saver for me. I forgot to send my test scores until like two days ago and there aren’t enough business days with all the holidays and such

Hi guys. I submitted my RD app a couple days ago. Looking forward to getting to know you guys in the weeks leading up to decisions. Good luck!

Just submitted my RD app today. Good luck to everyone applying RD

Submitted my app yesterday, good luck to everyone! <3
