Dartmouth Need Blind in Admissions?

altho I may have not looked thoroughly, I could not ascertain from the website if the school has need-blind admissions. Anyone have insight or a link where the policy is shown?

Yes, it does. And it is commited to meeting 100% of demonstrated need AND for families with incomes less than $30,000 will meet all need WITHOUT loans or work-study. I read it in a book though, so I can't link you.

Here you go...

Admissions

The Admissions process is need-blind for all U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and holders of certain U.S. refugee statuses.

The Admissions process is also need-blind for Canadian and Mexican citizens.

The admission candidacy of applicants who do not fall into either of the above categories considers both financial need and admissions criteria.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is awarded based on demonstrated financial need rather than on merit, athletic ability, or special talents.

Dartmouth guarantees to meet 100% of each family's demonstrated financial need during the student's four years of undergraduate study.

Each family's need is re-assessed each year and the financial aid package is adjusted, as necessary, to assure that it is commensurate with demonstrated need.

work study will be part of your financial aid package as most likely a student that falls in this category would be eligible for federal work study vs work study employment. If you get FA from dartmouth you are going to have work study unless you have an outside scholarship to absorb the cost.

Dartmouth's policy states:

Starting with this fall's enrolling class, the Class of 2009, Dartmouth students whose family incomes are less than $30,000 will receive financial aid packages **without student loans. The portion of the package that normally would be composed of loans will be replaced with additional scholarship funds. Barring significant changes to family financial circumstances, this no-loan financial aid package will be renewed each year for all four years. **

thank you, semiserious and sybbie.

I thought it must be there somewhere, but my search capability requires a new operator. LOL

ok guys, this is serious stuff. I'm an applicant from Vietnam and due to my family's financial circumstance, I think ill need a full ride. Is it going to seriously hinder my chance of getting admitted. Approximately, how much does Dartmouth gives its international student. Anyway, Im applying early decision

Please be aware that Dartmouth is not need blind to international students so your ability to pay will be a factor in the admissions process. However, if you are admitted, Dartmouth will meet 100% of your demonstrated need.

This question may not be on the topic but is it possible to apply Dartmouth ED and also Yale and Harvard EA at the same time.

oopsss, stupid question. Sorry guys

I think I've said this before but it can not be said enough: Dartmouth's interpretation of "meeting your need" can be drastically different from your actual need.

I have not found financial aid to be especially generous. It doesn't mean it can't be done, but expect to have to take out alternative loans.
