Dartmouth to Abolish Frats?

I read that several years ago Dartmouth's president said he was committed to closing down fraternities. for example, the dartmouth review had an article on it: http://www.dartreview.com/archives/1999/02/03/wright_trustees_to_close_down_greeks.php.

I have not hear anything about this and couldn't find any recent information. Did President Wright give up on trying to abolish frats or is this something that will happen in the next couple years?

the greek system is alive and well at Dartmouth and there is nothing in the plans to abolish them any time soon. In fact a new national sorority will be taking in members this fall

you realize that the dartmouth review isnt the most reliable source of journalism

after this, they might:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/09/animal.house.ap/index.html

"Dartmouth spokesman Roland Adams said the school does not release disciplinary records for Dartmouth's 24 single-sex fraternities and sororities or the three co-ed organizations. More than a third of the school's 4,100 undergraduates are members of fraternities and sororities."

Dartmouth actually has 4 co-ed organizations: Phi Tau, Alpha Theta, Amarna, and Panarchy, no?

argh the story about the police's search of AD made the New York Times. this is NOT how i envisioned dartmouth being portrayed in the ny times ...
