Dartmouth v. Georgetown

Unless you want to study Politics and you're in SFS (which you have not indicated), you should probably go to Dartmouth. I have a couple of friends who started at g-town, hated it, and transferred to Penn or Columbia. The atmosphere is not as social, the campus life isn't great, etc.

Finally, Dartmouth is, for better or for worse, far more prestigious. The alumni network is VERY strong, and you feel valued by the college - not a feeling you get from Georgetown, from what I hear. Or many other Ivies, for that matter. Places like Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Columbia are all large research institutions with no time for coddling. Dartmouth, in contrast, is very warm and helpful to new students.

Obviously you must have a feel for both, but I would highly recommend Dartmouth.

I would still say come visit as a "possible recruit" so that they'll pair you with a tennis player here. Simply visiting here with your parents and visiting and staying the night are completely different thing.

And I gotta say, Dimensions is probably the reason why 60% of the student body is here.

Dartmouth. No question about it. Prestige, connections, networking, etc. Only bitter people who are rejected from Dartmouth trash the school.

I'm a parent, so not a "bitter rejectee". However, y'all are fooling yourselves if you think that there aren't other great colleges out there that offer a better fit for some kids. For example, "Prestige, connections, networking, etc." mean little to a kid who wants to experience real, big-time D1 sports, such as Tenting in Durham or sitting in the Big House in Ann Arbor. Slipper menioned "awesome" movie theater in town, which I assume means ONE. DC has dozens.

Depending on how important tennis is to you, you may wish to consider the tennis facilities at the two schools, teammates, the level of competition, coaches, athletic departments, athletic alumni etc. You will be spending a lot of your spare time with these people so fit will definitely matter. I agree with one of the other posters. Visit both schools and hang out with the tennis teams.

Dartmouth has a great tennis facility. Huge indoor center.
