Dartmouth Vs. Yale

Well the decision letters are in, and I've been accepted to Dartmouth and Yale. Any suggestions/opinions of which one I should go to? At the moment I'm leaning toward Dartmouth, but I'm open to the input of others.

both great schools and students; very different settings. Most can tell from a single walk around where they belong. Key: what do like to do in spare time? The Appalachian trail passes through campus and a 20 minute ride from Hanover gets you to D’s ski area for example. 20 minutes from New Haven gets you to . . ah, Bridgeport?

If you’re indifferent to setting, pay attention to the academic calendars. Dartmouth has a quarter system where a typical term is 3 courses over 10 weeks vs. 4 or 5 over 15. Over time you accomplish the same thing, but the pace of instruction is faster and more concentrated in the shorter period. Some like this, some don’t. Also, traditional to spend sophomore summer on campus to free up a winter term for travel, internships, etc. Soph summer was our son’s favorite, but some don’t like being out of synch with their back-home friends.

Congrats on earning great options.

25 minutes from New Haven gets you to Fairfield. Basically, it comes down to whether you want to be in a urban environment or a rural for location

and I agree with smog on the academic calendar… that’s an important factor

Interesting to see this is a dilemma for you, most cross admits choose Yale in a flash. And probably for all the wrong reasons.

I agree there are Yale types and Dartmouth types. If you fancy yourself intellectual and see yourself getting a PhD, head to Yale.

If you want to work on Wall Street or be in business in general and are a work hard/party hard type, Dartmouth’s your school. The greatest advantage of Dartmouth apart from it being undergrad focused in my mind is the Dartmouth Plan. This allows you to graduate with many more internships than most and to go on more study abroad programs.

What a great choice to have!

are you more pre-professional? If so: Dartmouth.
Are you more artsy/intellectual? if so: yale

Also, do you like the big wilderness better…or the luxuries of a smallish city?

Yale, imo, has a prettier campus.
