Just saw this the other day but it had nothing on it and said come back today. It’s a couple of forms that I think all the 2010 Appointees who accepted need to fill out. Just letting everyone know.

Thank you texas_falcon. Didn't see anything about this in the appointment packet. Please keep us informed if more odd things crop up on the Net.

Before arriving to Basic the only exams are the Spanish and German placement ones plus any APs you want to add. The first week of Basic will include alot of placement exams. I don't know if USAFA even offers Latin as a course...

Our son didn't expect the AFA to offer Latin. If you have already taken AP exams and have scores back, are we to have our son bring documentation? (Some are already on his transcripts)

He may still choose not to waive the first year classes even though he received scores of "4". His HS advisor said he may want to take the first year classes at AFA for a couple of reasons. 1) The AFA may place more emphasis on portions of the class material that his prior class skimmed over.
2) Taking a required class that he is already familiar with would allow him to concentrate on other courses with a tough work load. Adjusting to the academy environment would not be as stressful. His ALO made the same comments during an in home interview.

There has been previous discussion about the value of placing out of courses or not. The consensus seemed to be it was really best to place out of as many as possible. The thought of taking a lighter load is seductive, but introductory-survey courses seem to often be harder to make a good grade. Also, you have more room in your schedule for electives later on. BTW Latin rocks. USAFA only offers modern languages, but hopes you might take Arabic, Russian, or Chinese while there. Latin is as good preparation for those languages.

I was wondering this the other day- I took Russian for 5 years in Middle/High School. It ended in 10th grade, and then I took Latin. Of course, I'll choose to take Russian at the Academy, but even though I've taken 5 years of it I'll still start out with everyone else taking Russian, correct?

I believe the way it works is that if you place highly on your tests, they move you up for when you begin classes that August. So, if I do well on the Calc test, I'll probably move up to a harder math class first year. Would be tougher in the short run, but well worth it.
