This is a fairly specific question but I know somebody knows the answer. Specifically, son is a junior, interested in men's soccer at a D-2 university. He has been to four camps or combines at this university and so he already knows the coach (and the coach has seen him play with our club team). I think I found on the NCAA recruiting website that June 15 following the junior year is when coaches can actually start "talking money" or otherwise being specific about "I want you to come here" etc. Is that correct? Anybody else "been there, done that"? Thanks!

The athlete or the parents can contact college coaches anytime. The NCAA rule is that college coaches can’t contact recruits until they are rising seniors . In many sports athletes verbal early to a college. They have contacted the coaches, had a meeting on campus with the coaches in order to get an offer. The NCAA doesn’t prohibit the athletes from contacting the coaches, only prohibits the coaches from initiating contact until the correct time.

There are many restrictions including when/how to meet etc…
not at events
not off campus etc etc

In our student’s case–July 1 allows more contact…

You need to go to the NCAA rules and check them out…so you get the right advice for your sport.

check out [The Official Web Site of the NCAA - NCAA.org - NCAA.org](http://www.ncaa.org) for the rules … but as Sammy Dod mentioned the communication restrictions limit coaches proactively contacting students … in earlier years coaches can respond to communications from players … and that is how commitments are made before the time coaches can contact players

^^They (coaches) can initiate email after September 1 of junior year though.

I honestly think it’s different according to the sport so you’d have to double check the rules. There are also very distinct no contact periods even within the time they can talk to kids.

july 1 for face to face and there are rules around that as well. on campus, on recruiting trips, 48 hour rule, etc…

July 1 for face to face, but student athlete can call the coach anytime including while they are both in the same place. How’s that for being sneaky.
