dates for auditions!?

I'm auditioning for 6-7 schools. I'm beginning to look at the audition dates, do they usually overlap?
what is the best way to try and schedule them? Is it best to audition early?

It is pretty much impossible to answer this question without knowing what schools you are applying to :D. Generally speaking, and this is probably obvious, at Unifieds all schools use the same day(s), and so it would be best to schedule your audition times as much in advance as possible, so that you get the slots you prefer.

In regard to on-site auditions, some schools overlap and others "back into each other". For example, last year, on a certain weekend, Point Park and CMU in Pittsburgh held auditions on Saturday and Sunday. For those who wanted to audition for both schools and had to travel from far away, it made sense to cover them in one trip. To be able to do that, it is helpful to make a list of the schools you plan to audition at, write down all the audition dates, and than work on the logistics and what makes the most sense based on your personal circumstance (you HS schedule, where you live, are you doing on-site only, a combination etc.).

To audition early or not is very personal; my D liked to audition early, but others preferred to audition later in the season. It all depends how ready you feel. Some people even recommend to schedule a "warm up audition" for a school that is not as high on your list first, and auditions for very competitive programs after that. In my D's case however all the schools she auditioned for were "number ones in her mind".

Either way, the earlier you are able to tie down the dates/times the better, as it will be easier to get the times you want.

Good luck!

thanks! i'm applying to: boco, ithaca, hartt, fredonia UB, U of arts, and maybe Temple. I"ve already completed most apps and sent in 4

The other rationale for an early audition is that some schools have rolling admissions so they will make a decision early. You may have an early acceptance that will take some of the stress off of the later dates.

University of the Arts not only has rolling auditions, but they often/usually send you your results (admitted or denied) within a few weeks, so (as very wise and nice jacksdad suggests above), you know where you stand quickly.

thanks!!!!!!!!

Ah Pshaw. thanks NMR

xoxtinysingerxox -- Am I remembering correctly that you are auditioning as a transfer student? I may be confusing you with someone else :) ... If you are a transfer student... realize that regardless of when you audition you may have to wait until after May 1st to find out if you have been accepted. This will vary from school to school.

You have a great list of schools! And seem very on top of the process. Best of luck!

yes thanks!! i will check with each school on that.

Good Luck!
