D. is deciding between Kenyon and Vassar. Both schools are wonderful, though there is some concern about the prospects for dating, especially at Vassar. Any thoughts on what dating life is like for heterosexual women at either of these schools these days? Would love to know how the 60/40 ratio impacts the romantic life for hetero women/men…
My D went to Vassar and started dating in the second semester of freshman year. It’s really not that bad. There are many other colleges with the same or more unbalanced ratio. But if it’s really really scaring her off, she should go to Kenyon. (but Kenyon’s ratio is 45% male 55% female and Vassar’s ratio is 43% male 57% female according to US News 2018. I say it’s a tie.)
^Pretty similar ratios for Kenyon and Vassar, so not really a factor!
There are plenty of men for dating at Vassar, as evidenced from the numbers, but here are a few potentially reassuring anecdotes.
We saw a lot of Vassar men recently at a wedding for a recent grad, some with their Vassar girlfriends.
Both students who are going there recently from our local high school (Vassar classes of ‘21 and ‘22) are men as well.
Also, although this is a while ago— of my husband’s four closest male friends from his Vassar days, three of them met their wives at Vassar!
How long ago was your daughter at Vassar?
