My daughter has been accepted to McCombs but she has also been accepted to Mays at A&M. She wants to go to Mays and I have been trying to change her mind. Any suggestions?

show her the uswnr rankings, mccombs is ranked a good sight above mays and is in the top 10. however, ut is very liberal and a&m is pretty conservative, it really depends on what she likes and the environment she is comfortable with. regardless, she’ll get a great education at either one.

Has she spent an overnight in a dorm at each school? Hung out on campus?

If she has visited friends at both UT and A&M and she loves the feel of A&M, that Corps of Cadets experience at A&M, she should go to A&M. The schools have a very different “feel” to them; if she honestly prefers the environment at A&M, why not let her go there? Mays is good.

Most of us posting on this section of CC would add, UT is better! ;)

I’d never heard of Mays until this thread.

McCombs is the only business school to have every major be ranked in the top 10 by US News and I can’t recall Mays being on any of their top 10 lists. Plus, McCombs is the 6th best overall and A&M isn’t close.

McCombs is a nationally recognized and respected business school that attracts a lot of out of state applicants (a lot of whom haven’t heard of Mays or don’t have any respect for the program) and the best companies in America recruit at McCombs. Mays has a good reputation among the alumni network, which is very strong, but unless you’re interviewing with an Aggie, McCombs students will have a definite advantage.
