David Axelrod to announce new institute for study of politics today – The Chicago Maroon

Further evidence that U Chicago is stepping more into the "real world". Good news overall.

Axelrod will serve as the director of the Institute when it officially launches next January, and he said that he plans to spend approximately 20 hours a week on campus working with students and faculty to develop the institute.

He master minded Obama's successful election four years ago with transformative historical consequences. Hard to ignore this man's name value and his CONNECTIONS into the inner sanctum of the political center

TYPO in the heading: david axelrod to ANNOUNCE .....

Hopefully this works well in practice!

(Unlike, say, CAPS, which seemingly continues to get negative commentary.)

Actually, most students give high marks to CAPS and its services. Its Jeff Metcalf Internships have been wildly successful.

I went to the “teaser” forum where the institute was announced and there was a panel discussion with Stephanopoulos, Alex Castellanos, Rachel Maddow, Rahm Emanuel and David Brooks. It was fantastic – if the ones to follow are even close to being on par to that one, then this institute will be a really great addition. In talking to Axelrod afterword he made it abundantly clear that the goal was to have it open to everyone, regardless of major or graduate/undergrad status.

I watched that forum live online and it was indeed very informative and entertaining. A pundit with “my” kind of sense of humor is a beautiful thing.
