Okay so this is my dilemma, and i hope someone can help shed light on my situation. So i got accepted into UC Davis for Biomedical Engineering and UC Irvine for Biomedical Engineering (Pre-Med) and i am confused as to which to choose. i am interested in pursuing medicine and have the option of doing medicine in both schools, though davis has not clearly specified abt it. i am about two hours away from UCD; surely, staying close to home is important but will not be the deciding factor in my decision. can you guys please post your opinions on the two colleges (comparing the two campuses), on the following subjects: academics, student life, the surrounding areas, etc.

davis!!!!!! ranked the number 3 uc after berkeley and ucla. i liked the campus better too.

Please use the search function. There has been countless posts about this exact topic. Thanks.

well cdf88 some ppl like to have their own thread...

and to ubermuchlove...i have not been neither school....but i have been nearby both school...and i like the irvine better...just because weather is much better and i dont like my school to be in the middle of nowhere...
but from what ive heard, everything else seems to be same..

Yeah but the problem is each time this kind of thread pops up it turns into a thinly veiled poo flinging contest between the two camps.

thats true too...

"davis!!!!!! ranked the number 3 uc after berkeley and ucla. i liked the campus better too."

Er, actually, UCSD is generally ranked higher -- and rightfully so. It tends to go like this:

Berkeley/UCLA
UCSD
UCD/UCSB/UCI
UCR/UCM/UCSC

Both are stong in biomedical majors. Doing well at either can get you into a medical school. The area surrounding the town of Irivne is suburban SoCal. The area surrounding the town of Davis is rural with Sacramento not too far away.

UCI is more of a commuter school, whereas UCD offers the full "college experience" In fact, Davis is perhaps the only true college town in California --> big university located in a small town.

Neither one is an athletic powerhouse, but athletics are in general a bigger deal at UCD than at UCI.

Both have medical schools and business schools. Davis also has a law school and a veterinary school but Irvine has neither.

You can be a big success in life with an education from either one.

thanks to those that replied with answers to my QUESTION. and i started a new thread because i wanted information specific to biomedical engineering with additional information. i saw the other threads and those didn't really talk abt biomedical engineering/pre med.

davis for sure.

well...i think davis is known for vets

but... my brother goes to UCI and he seems to like it, personally i would go to davis only because i think its a better school then uci for science

good luck :)

One of the main differences is lifestyle and setting. While both schools are near fun places (UCD is near Tahoe for skiing and San Francisco; Irvine near various beaches via freeway), Irvine is one of Southern California's uglier cities. (And I say this as a California native.)
Davis would be the logical choice for me (mainly because I am an alumni :-) ): the town is very live-able and you can get by with a bike; it rains in the Winter; Davis has a lot of science stuff -- vet school and MANY depts. w/ science focus, such as Nutrition; the Med school, of course. It has a wonderful sense of community. Dorms are nice and off-campus housing is close to the school. I think being 2 hours from home is a plus. With the price of gas, being in Irvine would make visits home more expensive and more time-consuming. At UCD, you could drive home on Sunday morning, visit and do your laundry, and be home by 9 PM.
Best wishes!

UCI b/c of weather/location. Near LA, come on

UCI is ranked higher than davis
