Whoops, that’s what I get for not reading through the full thread….
no worries, @profparent. Your info is good for others who may stumble on this thread later looking for suggestions for good merit.
Our aid from WUSTL was as expected - not much. No merit and a little FA, which we expected, but you never know for sure until the offer comes.
While I’m sure WashU is a great school, it just doesn’t seem to be thousands and thousands of dollars greater than Emory. Emory was already going to be tight financially, even w/ scholarship, WUSTL’s tuition is beyond tight. Initially, she thought maybe she’s get a merit scholarship - her essay was incredible, imo but that didn’t happen.
She’s thrilled w/ Emory, has met a great group of people on their online community, roommate included, so she’s happy.
Hope all you are settling in and happy with your decisions and choices.
Getting aid is always tough when you get off a waitlist. She’ll have a blast at Emory!
She would be an outlier getting into Yale with a 3.6–would be very uncommon without a hook.
She didn’t apply to Yale, boola (boola)
My bad…I was replying to an item very early in the string.
Checking in to come full circle on the process. She just finished her freshman year and she really likes Emory and feels as if it was a good choice. Academically and socially she’s having a great time. Thanks all for helping make this a positive experience.
Thank you so much for the update !
Just read the whole thread from beginning to end. Very informative, thanks for keeping everyone posted along the way. I’m wondering whether your daughter continued with dance/ballet at Emory and what she thought of their offerings in that regard.
@Curiosa Hi. No, she did not continue with dance so I can’t comment on their program. Sorry I can’t be helpful in that regard. She was involved in a theater production and it was a positive experience. She said this year she may look into dance as a fitness extracurricular.
I’ll check back over the next few weeks and if anyone has specific questions and I’ll pass them on to her - I’d love to pay it forward as so many were helpful here on CC.
