I would really appreciate any insights any of you may have as to specific schools with strengths in this area, as well as any ideas for evaluating schools based on this interest. Thanks!

Well, here is an overview course:
[Free World War 2 Course | Open Harvard Course](http://www.extension.harvard.edu/open-learning-initiative/world-war-history)

But it is likely that lots of colleges have various history courses that cover the war as part of the course material (e.g. history of ____ country from 1914 to 1945), or cover some aspect of the war in depth. Courses focusing on the diplomatic and political aspects may also be found in political science departments, while courses focusing on the military aspects may be found in ROTC courses. You may have to start looking through colleges’ course catalogs and schedules to see what each offers in this area.

Perhaps less frequently mentioned is the economic aspect of the war:

Here’s a starting point: [Best European History Programs | Top History Schools | US News Best Graduate Schools](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-humanities-schools/european-history-rankings)

I wouldn’t necessarily buy into the ranking methodology - and these are graduate programs - but it should indicate strength of the faculty overall. I’d then dive into the course catalogs for each school and specific faculty research interests to identify matches. Cost and the schools’ overall fit are as, if not more, important given the frequency with which kids change their majors and areas of interest.

Remember, World War 2 was also fought in places other than Europe; indeed, the regional war between Japan and China that eventually merged into World War 2 started earlier (1937 for full scale war; 1931 for intermittent meddling/fighting) than the European regional war (1939).
