I think you have to take the counseling 100 class. I took it. Its not bad. Its pass no pass. All they do is talk about deanza, transfer etc. They also take you on a tour.

if you think de anza is a cake walk think again. the math and science teachers here is pretty hard. not to mention most students are international mostly from china and they set the bar so high you will have to know the class well before enrolling!

and the parking is crazy. almost no space to park everyday.

not to mention most math and science classes get filled up pretty fast that i had to go to another CC to take my classes.

overall I wouldn't say de anza is good but its not bad either.

My first class is at 8:30am and there's plenty of parking, so it only becomes an issue if your class starts later, like at 10am

DVC? Diablo Valley? That's a bit toooooo far.

Ah, how hard are the math/science classes? How much do you guys study/do hw on average?

I don't study much. But thats me. A lot of people think that the sciences are hard because the teachers sometimes put problems that usually require "thinking outside the box". So missing these problems could mean the difference between a B and a A. Also, math is really easy until you get past integral calculus and series. Then you have to do a lot of 3d stuff.

How well did you do in high school sciences?

They were alright. I am really really bad at Chem, but seem to excel in Bio and Physics. I took Bio, Honors Chem, Physics, AP Physics, and AP Bio. So far, doing pretty well in AP Physics B.

Math, I got up to Calc AB junior year and am not taking a math class this year as a senior.

Well, look at your scores on the midterms and maybe AP tests. Because in Deanza science classes, your grade will be pretty much your test average(i.e for sciences 80+% comprises tests&quizzes and 90%+ for math). If you got an A average(on exams) in high school, then it shouldn't be too hard to say that you will land in the 3.5+ math/science gpa zone. The range just means deanza is harder due to the pace (e.g, we covered F=ma in about a week) and/or higher level of conceptual difficulty.

I'm finishing up at de anza right now, trends are that sciences are easier at foothill, as is math (sometimes). Just go to rate my professor dot com to look up professors before choosing. right now im at my last quarter, i slacked off almost every quarter and ended up with:
UCI, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB for business economics with a 3.7ish gpa.
(+ all 6 state schools i applied to)

However I did grow up in the area going to faria elementary, kennedy middle school and monta vista high. de anza is like 100 times easier than monta vista. theres not much homework for the classes.

for science majors you'll probably be 3 years here; business you'll have a relaxed time if you set your schedule right. im spring quarter and igetc and prereqs are already done. this quarter is just random bs classes.

I am from De Anza....
deanza is famous b/c its transfer rate is high...but actually most ppl transfer to SJSU...that's why it is high. There are some pretty good instructors here too..
if u wanna go to berkeley maybe DVC is a better choice..

California Postsecondary Education Commission -- Transfer Pathways

this official stats will be very helpful to u...just click on the UC u wannt transfer to then u will see how many ppl from each CC transfer there every year. i remember DVC has the most students to berkeley..

I got this after 1 year of study in De anza..and it is too late..
just rejected by UCLA...
i should have just went to Santa Monica College...:(

i think if u do good at any CC (3.8+, pre-reqs, igetc, also possible TAP)
you have a good shot @ UCLA
just because u went to x community college doesnt mean its harder to xfer necessarily
and I think de anza is perfectly fine; if u wanted to TAP, go to foothill

that california postsecondary education commission link has great info! I'm glad I made the choice to go to deanza instead of evergreen or mission. The transfer rates for the other schools are so low, no wonder I never hear of anyone transfering out of evergreen valley or mission..

This TAP program sounds familiar. What exactly is it?

UCLA Transfer Alliance Program

It's a transfer alliance program that almost guarantees acceptance if you follow all the guidelines.

sorry, its not guarantee, it's priority.

I'm from De Anza! I'm now a 3rd year at Cal. I also got accepted to UCLA, Davis and Santa Cruz.

De Anza has a pretty good assortment of profs. & instructors. It would be better to transfer from a cc than sjsu (higher acceptance rate).

Is foothill alright? I think ima go there in case I need to TAP it up
