DE Shaw recruitment

I noticed on the DE Shaw website that they recruit at a very select and somewhat arbitrary group of schools. For example, whilst the list features the usuals (Ivies, MIT, Caltech, Duke, etc), there are some notable omissions like UChicago, Dartmouth, Brown.

Why does Shaw have campus events at schools like SUNY Binghampton and Penn State, but not the above? Random much?

<a href="https://www.deshaw.com/OnCampus.html%5B/url%5D">https://www.deshaw.com/OnCampus.html</a></p>

I wouldn’t read too much into their list. As far as I know DE Shaw doesn’t do much formal recruiting at all. It’s insanely hard to get in

they recruit at the SUNY"s for back office

It’s quite common for companies to recruit at a group of schools with omissions of similar schools. For instance, Oliver Wyman Financial Services consulting recruits at Ivies minus Cornell and Brown, Stanford, Northwestern, and UVa.

They go to the lower schools for back office jobs, as slapshot said.

you can go to whatever school you want to and end up at shaw if you have a couple IMO medals and have done well in the Putnam, lol.

Awped has more of the right idea though. The barrier to entry there isn’t going to be the school you go to for the most part.
