I noticed on the DE Shaw website that they recruit at a very select and somewhat arbitrary group of schools. For example, whilst the list features the usuals (Ivies, MIT, Caltech, Duke, etc), there are some notable omissions like UChicago, Dartmouth, Brown.

Why does Shaw have campus events at schools like SUNY Binghampton and Penn State, but not the above? Random much?

It’s quite common for companies to recruit at a group of schools with omissions of similar schools. For instance, Oliver Wyman Financial Services consulting recruits at Ivies minus Cornell and Brown, Stanford, Northwestern, and UVa.
